Can macrons be used in MultiTerm?

This probably has a lot to do with Unicode compatibility, but can I register terms with macrons in MultiTerm?

As an academic in Japanese studies (translation is my day job), I would like to be able to create a database with macrons over English vowels to indicate lengthened pronunciation. Is this possible? I keep getting junk characters.

Any help would be appreciated.
