Is there a way to get the original source text back? Thread poster: Anette Herbert
|
I am sure I have seen this question before but I can't find the right words to search the FAQs. I forgot to save the original text and have translated it and now need it again, is there a way to get it back quickly? Time is of the essance so any ideas would be gratefully received. Anette

Thanks for the idea Mark but I made it myself from a pdf, but I was just thinking, should I not be able to translate it from my target text if I import the memory into the target language? Anette

Anette Probably, but I don't have Trados so I don't know the procedure. Alternatively, do you still have the uncleaned file? If so, it should be quite easy to delete the target text from it. Marc

Hi Annette, Just use "Find and replace" option in work: - Find (using wildcards) "non hidden text" and replace it with blank spaces. - Do the same with codes (both internal and external) through font (it use to be different than translatable text). - Delete extra spaces. - Toggle "hidden text" to normal text. That's all. Joaquim

It worked! I imported the source memory of the translation I had done into my target memory, and then translated it with Trados translation option, and then just cleaned the file and Hey presto! There it was - my source file. Thanks Marc and Espurna for your suggestions - they will be very useful for next time. Happy Anette

I was just thinking, should I not be able to translate it from my target text if I import the memory into the target language? This is also possible. Export the TM, create a new one with inverted language pair and import the export file. With this TM you will be able to revert your translation back to the original document. But Joaquim's solution is much faster (if you have the bilingual document). It will destroy the formatting, though. P.S. Sorry, I didn't see your previous post.

Some time ago I have written a small macro that restores all source segments in Trados bilingual Word document. Here it goes: Selection.GoTo wdGoToSection, 1 Do Selection.Expand If Selection.Characters(1).Style.NameLocal = "tw4winMark" Then Application.Run "tw4winOpen.Main" Application.Run "tw4winRestoreSource.Main" Else Selection.Collapse (wdCollapseEnd) End If Loop Until Selection.InRange(Ac... Good idea, just keep in mind that the segmentation might be different in the target language which might result in some segments not being recognized as 100 % matches. Regards, Benjamin
My case is worse. I need help !! | Jun 17, 2005 |
My case is similar with Annette's, but I lost the soruce document I received via E-mail and I haven't even started working on it. Even in the e-mail, it is revised because I made changes before I saved it to appropriate files. Is there any way to find the one my client sent to me without asking him to resend ?
