Hi everybody!

I am currently working with three other colleagues on a big translation project.
We use Trados and in order to stay consistent, I use a lot the Concordance tool.
Unfortunately, it doesn't work properly.
Some segments that I've just entered don't appear when I use the Concordance tool.
I searched the archives of the forum and found that the "reorganisation" was the remedy. We did it, twice...
And the problem is still there...

Any idea?
Thanks for your help!

Caroline

Change settings Jul 28, 2005

Hi Caroline,
Have you tried changing the concordance settings?
(Options - TM Options - Concordance)

I use a minimum match value of 30%.

Best, Ralf

Tried again Jul 28, 2005

Hi Ralf,

Mine was set to 50%.
I've just set it to 30% as you said and it still doesn't work...

Any other idea?

Reference TM? Jul 28, 2005

Hi again,
Do you use a reference TM? If yes, is the search set to search first in reference TM?

Best, Ralf

Very large TM? Jul 28, 2005

No idea how to remedy it, but in very large TMs (over 100,000 TUs), I also noticed it for concordance search on single terms or small phrases.
I suppose Trados cannot retrieve a single word amongst millions with the Concordance tool only, so I assume MultiTerm databases are there to do this kind of job.
If you cannot somehow filter the TM with the text or attribute fields, a very tedious workaround would be to use the Maintenance tool in TWB and apply a filter with your own search settings. Otherwise, you can build a termbase...
Best of luck,
Philippe

Same problem Jul 28, 2005

I have the same problem when using Trados with TMs containing some 5000 TUs, whereas Wordfast finds everything.

Size Jul 28, 2005

I don't know how many TUs there are.
The size of the TM is 65MB and I am using another which is about the same size and I've never had that problem before!
When I look at a complete phrase that I've just entered, the concordance tool doesn't list my segment...
Very annoying..

A few more points to check Jul 28, 2005

Hi again,
I don't think size is an issue here - my main TM is approaching 100MB, without any problems using Concordance.

A few more issues to check:

- Try (re-)registering the software (Start - Programs - Trados 6.5 - Register Trados 6.5).

- What is the database version (File - Properties)?

- Does the TM contain multiple languages/locales?

- Which Trados version are you using?

Might be worth contacting Trados Support.

Best regards,
Ralf

Reply to the points to check... Jul 29, 2005

Hi Ralf,

- The database version is 5.0.
- The database locales are only English and French.
- The Trados version is 6.5.5.438 (Build 439).

I haven't tried to re-register the version yet because I have to ask the administrator.

Thanks for your help Ralf!

Cheers

Caroline

Database version Jul 29, 2005

Hi Caroline,
Not sure whether this is the core of the issue, but worth a try:

- The database version is 5.0.
- The database locales are only English and French.
- The Trados version is 6.5.5.438 (Build 439).

Although technically possible, it's not recommended to use database built with a legacy version. Export your TUs, create a new TM (don't use the Copy command), reimport the TUs and reorganise.

Best regards,
Ralf

Bad news Jul 29, 2005

Hi Ralf,

We created a new database, reorganised, etc. and the behaviour is still the same...

Guess that we have to contact the Trados support now.

Thanks for your help!

Cheers,

Caroline
