Converting HTML to INI to TTX for TagEditor

The Problem:

Text following the main title in an html file is not visible when converting the file in .ttx format in order to work with Tag Editor. The text is hidden in a tag which can not be modified or opened.

Some chunks of translatable text appear to be untranslatable in a inaccessible tag. Once files are cleaned and reconverted into html format, the whole text appears translated EXCEPT for those chunks. We can identify the chunks that have been left untranslated once we CLEAN the html files that were worked on in Tag Editor, not before.

Someone suggested the following:

This may have to do with "INI" files and a special INI is necessary. We are working with Trados predefined INI file, but need the appropriate file in order to translate everything.

Plea for help:

Please advise regarding a solution to this problem. (Do you know anything about using/creating .ini files from .html files? If so, please advise.)

Thanks.

Exactly. You need to add the tag to the INI file. You can create a new one based on the default INI file for HTML and edit it. The procedure is described in TagEditor Help - go to the Glossary and search for "Tags, Adding".

Please follow this Knowledge Base article http://support.trados.com/view.asp?cntID=795 to make Java Script non-translatable.

How To: Making text in Java and VB scripts non-translatable (HTML, ASP and JSP documents)

Applies to: Translator's Workbench 3/TagEditor, Translator's Workbench 5/5.5

SYMPTOMS

When an HTML, ASP or JSP document containing scripts is opened in TagEditor (build 139 or later), any text enclosed in quotation marks is displayed for translation.
In HTML documents this text will appear within tags, and in ASP or JSP documents, within tags.
The default setting makes this text available for translation. This is controlled by a setting in the HTML4.ini.

EXPLANATION

The HTML4.ini file is located in the Translator's Workbench installation folder. The setting AllowTranslatableScripts in the [ReaderSettings] section governs whether this text is available for translation or not. By default, it is set to Yes: change this setting to No to hide this text from translation.

STEPS

Exit TagEditor if it is running.
Open the HTML4.ini file in Notepad.
Go to the [ReaderSettings] section.
In the line AllowTranslatableScripts=Yes, change Yes to No.
Save the modified HTML4.ini file and close Notepad.
Re-start TagEditor.
Any text in quotation marks occurs within HTML tags or ASP/JSP tags is no longer be available for translation.
