TM not showing matches

I am translating a file that is almost identical to a previous file (the analysis showed 75% 100% matches), but these matches are not registering, i.e. I am having to virtually rewrite the second file. Could anybody suggest a possible cause for this and a remedy if there is one?

I am using Trados 6.5 Freelance and a Word file.

Thank you in advance.

Correct TM? Mar 3, 2006

Have you checked the obvious, that you have opened the right TM (language direction), reorganised the memory? Rebooted the computer?
Did you do the analysis yourself? It has only ever happened to me when I opened the wrong memory, or some project settings have gotten in the way.

Hope it helps!

Kind regards
Anette

More details? Mar 3, 2006

Hi Stephen,

What is displayed in the Workbench-window?
If the matches appear in the WB as 100% or as fuzzy matches, and don't show in your target segment, have you tried the command "Get translation"?
Is your file maybe pre-translated?
What do you mean exactly with "they are not registering"?

Sylvain

reorganize the translation memory Mar 3, 2006

Sometimes this happens when the translation memory needs to be reorganized.

In Trados Workbench, go to FILE > ORGANIZE

That's all!

Regards

Clarisa

I'll try Clarisa's idea.

Sylvain,

I did what you suggested. I'm not sure what command "get translation" is since I have the interface in French (it's Ouvrir/Récupérer) and it worked!!

Stephen, try that. It worked for me.
