Hi everyone,

I am a brand new Trados user who can't get past the first sentence after a week of tweaking. My problem is the following:

I am translating from English into Arabic. Everything is working the way it is supposed to until I save and close my document. When I reopen my translated document the Arabic is turned into illegible code like this (ÌåÇÒ ÑÇÏíæ ÊßÊíßí ãÊØæÑ ). This is the stuff you get in Arabic sites when the right 'Character Encoding' option on the browser is not selected.

By the way, I am running Trados 7.1, and I had the same problem in a demo Trados version 5 before. Also, I can save Arabic documents in Word just fine, as long as it is not typed and saved within Trados. I appreciate any help.

It may have to do with the selected code page Mar 6, 2006

You can go to http://support.trados.com/ and search for some keywords like "Arabic" "code page" etc.

This is what I have found:

http://support.trados.com/view.asp?cntID=1106

Perhaps it steers you in the right direction...

It only took enabling Arabic in Microsoft Office Language Settings. To save anyone having the same problem some reading , this can be done in Windowx XP by going to Start> All Programs>Microsoft Office Tools>Microsoft Office Language Settings.
