Unable to open PPT file in TagEditor

I get the message [80005] Failed to create file parser Trados.PowerPointFileParser
When I Accept, it reads Failed to create parser for plugin file format!

This happens with all PPT files; maybe it is a misinstallation problem?

You may try to put the source PPT files to the same directory, it may help.

If you send me the file I will see what is going on. Jul 25, 2006

If I manage to open it, it may be some installation problem. Or perhaps you will be able to work with a TTX file?

Could it be, that PPT file simply too big? Jul 26, 2006

Cut it in pieces (50/50, or just the first slide plus the rest) and try again.

Trados AND Powerpoint installation Jul 26, 2006

You could try reinstalling Trados AND Microsoft Powerpoint. I think both programs also offer a "repair installation" option where you don't lose your settings.

I dont have the same problem... Oct 6, 2006

but then I may not have the same system.

There were three complaints so far about that 80005 error, if I understand it correctly, and not one of them provided the absolutely essential basic information:

1. which OS
2. wich office version
3. which Trados version

I am using:

1. XP professional
2. Office 2003 with SP2
3. Trados 7.5

and I do not have the same problem, no, I dont have any problem: I can load a PPT into TagEditor and work with it.

So ... what about you, boyz N gals?

smo

Same ppt problem - 80005 error Feb 13, 2007

Hi,

I have the same problem, but have been able to open ppt files in the past. My config:

1. XP Home
2. Office 2003 with SP2
3. Trados 7.5 build 756

I have both Powerpoint 2003 and 2007, so I opened the file in 2003 to see if there might be a version problem (i.e. file created in 2007), but it opens ok, so that doesn't seem the case.

I also saved with another file name in 2003, and still get the same error. The file is not extremely large (28 slides), so I don't think size has anything to do with it (around 5 MB).

In my case the error msg upon opening in TagEditor is:
(80005): Connection with server appication error: The method or operation is not implemented.

Anyone who has been able to solve this problem yet?

ppt problem - 80005 error FIX Mar 29, 2007

This worked for me:

open regedt32.exe

Navigate to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Record

Click on 'Record'

Click the 'Security' Menu - 'Permissions'

Ensure that 'Full Control' is selected for your account name (or for Administrators if you are in that group)

Select OK and close regedt32

Select:

Start - Programs - SDL International - SDL Trados 2006 - Register SDL Trados 2006

Trados should now correctly register its components.

That's it, TagEditor is now working for me.

Remove Hidden Data Mar 29, 2007

Hi all,

For large Office files that make Trados choke, the MS Remove Hidden Data plugin sometimes make wonders!

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/834427

In certain cases, it can slim down the file down to 1/6 of the original size, making it much easier for Trados to digest:

Worth a try!

/Jan

Forgot to say if your using window XP you select 'Edit - Permissions...' in regedt32 instead of 'security - permissions'
