Re-translate, or provide TM export Mar 22, 2007

Hi again,
If you accidentally cleaned the .bak files, unless you have a backup copy created by MS Word, you no longer have an unclean version.

What you could do is to re-translate the original (using your TM), or offer your client (who, I assume, requires an unclean file) a TM export instead.

HTH, Ralf

Thanks! Mar 22, 2007

Ok...so it's lost forever

I have the bak file but the one created when i cleaned the unclean, and the bak is also cleaned. So now, I'm left with 3 clean files: the original that now are cleaned (the source from where I cleaned) the cleaned vresion and the bak. It's weird, because I thought that at least one version will be unclean. But I learned my lesson from now on, unclean copies in different place.

Thank you also for the TM translation advice. If the client will ask it I'll do it from TM. Will take some time, but at least I won't have to redo everything

Just don't clean up the .bak file Mar 22, 2007

Hi again,
I'm somewhat puzzled by your response...

I have the bak file but the one created when i cleaned the unclean,

That's exactly as designed - what other .bak file were you looking for?

and the bak is also cleaned.

Only if you run a cleanup on the .bak file. Are you sure the .bak file is no longer bilingual - have you checked whether hidden text is displayed?

So now, I'm left with 3 clean files: the original that now are cleaned (the source from where I cleaned) the cleaned vresion and the bak.

???
Why would you run a cleanup on the source file?

May I suggest to review the process flow in the File Formats Reference Guide, and/or to use TagEditor (.ttx files always remain bilingual).

Best regards,
Ralf

Save bak as doc Mar 22, 2007

I am not so sure. Open the bak.file and make sure that hidden text is shown under Tools-Options-View.

You should now be able to see both source and target text, save the bak.file as .doc and you have now your uncleaned file. Remember to insert any changes you may have done to the cleaned up Word.doc file after clean up.

My bad Mar 22, 2007

Sorry about the trouble

It seems that yes, the .bak files didn't have the "hidden" oprtion checked

Thanks a lot to both

Have a great week
