Trados 2007 does not recongniza text in MS- textboxes.

Someone might say me where I can get (or to provide me) the macro to export and re-import text from the textboxes that was in files section of the TWB-yahogroups, actually idsappeared?

Thank you very much and best regards,

Filter settings Apr 18, 2007

Hello,

don't take a look on SDL Trados 2007, but maybe you can adjust settings in the Filter settings application ?

Regards

Hans

Did it ever in Word? Apr 18, 2007

To my knowledge textboxes were never recognised by Trados in Word. Try Tageditor instead.

Heinrich

Hi Heinrich,

so far I know, it never did.

However, according to the author of the macro - a software-architect of SDL - the macro has been withdrawn because the last version of SDL manages the textboxes without problems...

The problem is that I do NOT WANT to use SDL X for many reasons::

a) It has a really painful format copy system.
b) When it is necessary to export PDFs to Word, supporting the format, it only can be done with textboxes.
c) The number of textboxes is usually very high and to enter each of them to translate and clean the contains, isn't profitable.

between many others

Confusion?! Apr 19, 2007

Hi Pablo and all,

There must be some confusion here.

SDL = software company

SDLX = CAT software (now part of the SDL Trados suite)
SDL Trados Wordbench = CAT tool that integrates in Word, able to handle simple Word documents
SDL Trados TagEditor = CAT software able to handle more complicated Word files

So Heinrich is wisely telling you to use TagEditor. Did you try this or not?

Also, I don't understand where the PDF comes into the picture. Exactly what format is the source file that you want to translate?

There are many PDF converters (Abbyy PDF Transformer etc) that can create a Word file from PDf without introducing text boxes, so that shouldn't be a problem. Search the forum, there are many postings about that. But keep this question separated...

/Jan

Hi Jan,

I guess, we aren't confused at all. SDL International, now merged with Trados, is the developer of SDLX 2004, SDLX 2005, SDLX 2006 and other CATS.

Secondly, I already know that there exist many converters that turn pdf to word. I have proved almost all of them, except the one you quote. Very few which I have tried, for not saying any, supports well the original format in Word.

One of them is a SolidConverter PDF (real page) and the format is supported thanks to the textboxes. I will try with the TagEditor as Heinrich said.

Thx to all helpful people and best regards,
Pablo B

Hi Heinrich,

I have tried with the TagEditor as you told to me

.It sees the textboxes, but it sees all the conversion tags too and the original text is nearly unreadable. These tags exist with the textbox-text exporting methode too , but aren't read nor visible by the .doc or .rtf format. Will give abby-softwaer a try too.

Thx a lot,
Pablo B.

Hi all,

finally, I found the author and the macro I was searching. It is David Daduc' one ( a WF trainer & specialist and not an SDL engineer) and if someone will give it a try, you can get it here:

http://www.volny.cz/ddaduc/textboxes.html

This macro allows to extract the text from textboxes, translate it with any CAT tool and once translated it puts the text were it was.

Enjoy!

Best regards,
Pablo B.

PS: A similar macro for PPT is on the way.
Well, it is already made, but on improving.

And now, I guess this thread can be closed...

Hey Pablo and all,

I guess you know this already, but it's easy to hide tags in TagEditor, just play around with the blue "arrows" in the tool bar.

Also, if the tags are irrellevant, you can even delete them from the translation and ignore those pesky placeholders in your target segment.

I still think it's a more structured solution than taking the detour over external macros...

Good luck,

Jan
