Dear Colleagues,

I have caused total chaos. I am translating a pile of Powerpoint documents (250 pages) with TagEditor and Trados Freelance 2006 from GERMAN into ENGLISH.

By mistake, I created a TM English to German

Imported the customer's TM (German to English)

and started translating...

Unfortunately, I have only noticed this now and I'm half way through with the translation and I am under time pressure.

How can I sort this out?

(I have not cleaned any of the documents yet)

THANKS A LOT for your help!

Kind regards,

Natascha

Suggestion Jun 11, 2007

I think you can save it by:

1. Creating a new TM - German to English.
2. Importing the customer's TM.
3. Cleaning (a copy of) the already translated files.

Trados TM wont clean file with wrong source language Jun 11, 2007

Hi Jorgen,

Thanks a lot for your speedy reply. I have just tried this out. Unfortunately the new Trados TM refuses to clean the documents:

The source language of the input is incompatible with the current TMs source language.

Fussy thing it is...

Cheers
Natascha

Another suggestion Jun 11, 2007

HANG ON... languages switched... I'm confused...

OK, I think this must be right:

1. Create new German-English TM.
2. Cleanup already translated files.
3. Export TM to txt file.
4. Create new German-English TM.
5. Import customer's TM.
6. Import the export file of the "old" (English-German) TM.

That hopefully does the trick.
Though, I'm not sure. I have never tried it.

Jørgen

doesn't seem to sort it out either Jun 11, 2007

Hi Jorgen,

Thanks ever so much for helping me!

I have just followed your instructions, but when I search for a word I know I have translated by entering the German term, this TM doesn't find it..

When I enter this word into the concordance in English, the TM finds it and shows I have created it...

I think this means that there is still a problem with the languages...

Cheers
Natascha

One last go... Jun 11, 2007

After item 3:

Open the txt export file in Word and look at the language codes for each segment. The segments probably have the wrong language codes.

Reverse the language codes (Seg L=EN-GB for English, don't know the German code) using search and replace by first replacing Seg L=EN-GB with a unique string, e.g. Seg L=XXXXX. Then replace the German language code with Seg L=EN-GB, and finally replacing Seg L=XXXXX with the German language code.

Then proceed with the remaining steps 4-6.

Crossing my fingers

one more suggestion Jun 11, 2007

Hi Natascha,

Hope this will help:
1. Create a new TM - German to English.
2. Impor the customer's TM.
3. Open one of the files (translated one) and start "translating" (I mean, go through the file with "set close/open get" function)
4. Do the same with other files.
I know it is time consuming, however, it might help.

Regards,
Evija

P.S. Oh well, while my posting was not yet approved, you had already resolved this issue:)
