Jul 7, 2007

I participated in this, after having used the trial version for a couple of weeks. I also have an old version of Trados (6.5, I think), that is the one I use for work.

So far, I am getting nothing to work in the new version, and feel at a total loss.
When I try to start Workbench, it closes, telling me there is a license problem.
When I look in License manager, I can see nothing amiss, and of course I have tried activating the license several times. Running the bat-file for registration gives no error message.
What should I try next?

And wasn't Multiterm also supposed to be included? All I seem to get is a demo version with two or three languages, none of them Norwegian of course.

I have downloaded the install guides, but reading the start of those, only seems to tell me to do what I have already done.

If anyone could enlighten me, I shall be very grateful.

Have you deinstalled your old version? Jul 7, 2007

Hi,
you wrote "I also have an old version of Trados (6.5, I think), that is the one I use for work."

I had problems with the SDLX component of SDL Trados 2007 and found out that you cannot have two versions on your computer. So I deinstalled the old SDLX and everything worked fine then.

Maybe it is the same with Trados and you have to deinstall your older version first?

Regards,
Katrin

Thanks, Katrin Jul 7, 2007

I thought of that, but it specifically says in the installation guide that previous versions of trados workbench can be run alongside this one, whereas SDLX needs to be upgraded.
And anyway, I dare not uninstall the old version, since it is the only one that works.

Could you specify the problem, please? Jul 7, 2007

After purchasing the latest version, did you download Multiterm Build 444 from your account page?

And did you download a new license file from your account page, or are you trying to run it on the old licence?

Astrid

Please help! Jul 8, 2007

I have spent half the morning today removing all the Trados components, reinstalling them, activating the license again, registering the product - again - and the same thing happens.
I cannot start Trados Workbench and the error message I get tells me there is something wrong with the license.
Who do I complain to?
And where can I find a list of what exactly is supposed to be included in this package?
Since ProZ.com is actively advertising this stuff, I had hoped for some help...

License manager Jul 8, 2007

Hello Hilde,

Can you open license manager and see what it shows up in license status?

If you downloaded your license file to your computer try to add the file with the "Change the license location" option. This does not "change" the location; in fact, it allows you to add a new location (for example, I have separate lic files for Trados and Multiterm).

Have a look there and see what comes out of it... Let us know.

You can also go to the SDL site and look for technical support.

If there is a special "license file" - I don't know what that is or where to find it - I have just followed the steps in the installation procedure. I have done a search for *.lic files on my computer - there is only one, for Adobe reader - none that appears related to Trados or Multiterm.

I have sent my question to the SDL support site, and they have replied that they won't necessarily bother with me since I have not bought a support whatever. I thought 595 EUROS would entitle me to a working license....

SDL Trados Helpdesk - http://sdl.custhelp.com Jul 8, 2007

http://sdl.custhelp.com

I had a similar, maybe even the same problem and contacted their helpdesk. Turns out, if you have the old and new versions on your PC, they interfere with each other. I thus kept the old version on my laptop and the new one on my main PC.

I also had problems activating the program. SDL Trados then removed the new activation method and put me back to the old way used before the 2007 version.

My 2007 version now works fine.

Gisela

PS: Alas, I now have a constant error message 'runtime error 5' popping up when I open WORD, which was identified as an 'old Trados bug' and was supposed to be eliminated ages ago. Though I never had it until taking 2006 off and installing 2007...Despite generous assistance of the Helpdesk (even remote access) we have not been able to eliminate it. I have decided to live with it for the time being.

If I hear from them Jul 8, 2007

I MIGHT uninstall my old version

It says in the manual that Trados 6.5 can run alongside Trados 2007, and I do not dare to uninstall the only one that works - if I end up with nothing, how can I work?
I have looked through that page of help files without finding anything really helpful.
Did you buy an extra support package, Gisela?

support package Jul 8, 2007

No, I didn't. But will probably do now.

I was told, that the support I received was way beyond what was normally given if you don't have a support package. And I have to agree and really appreciated the time and effort they put into it.

Get in touch with them and see how it goes. You have to log in and post your question under 'my stuff'. You can also attach files - I attached a hell of a lot of screen shots.

Location of license file Jul 8, 2007

Hi Hilde,

The license file is located wherever you put it when you downloaded it. You should choose the location when you download it, not let it download itself to just anywhere it pleases. I downloaded it, for example, to a file I keep, among the normal data files for Word documents on my computer, which I call "Trados". I can easily find it there.

So you first of all download another copy (I think you can download it twice) and take care where you put it. The name of it is "license.lic".

Then you go into the Help menu and select "License Manager". You should choose "license locations" and then "add", and add the exact location where you know you just put the file.

It should work after that.

Astrid

P.S. Maybe you even allowed it to download itself to a temporary file, which has meanwhile been deleted, and that is why you cannot find it if you search for licence files.

Thanks, Astrid. Jul 8, 2007

I have not deleted any temporary files after the last download. At no point was I alerted that a license file was about to download, nor asked where I wanted to put it.
Even so, if it was there - I should find it when searching for *.lic on my HD?
I just dont understand this

Thank you for the list of the included components.
At least now I know what SHOULD be working here.
