Multiple instances of Trados 2007?

Hi all,
It would be useful to have multiple TMs open at once, but I am unable to run Workbench more than once. Otherwise the error message pops up as follows:
"An error occurred while trying to verify the licence. Please check the installation..."
I have registered the s/w under Windows.

I am running the following s/w on a Dell DualCore Centrino with 1 GB of memory:
SDL Trados v. 8.0.0.822
Windows XP Pro, SP2

Any tips?

Hello Mike,

I suppose that you have Trados Freelance Edition. In that edition only one instance of Workbench (or any Trados application) can be run simultaneously on a single machine or on a network. This is implemented as a copy protection system. I think that in the Professional version there is not such restriction, however.

Reference TM Jul 12, 2007

Hi Mike,

have you tried using your second TM as reference TM?

Options --> Translations Memory Options --> Concordance --> Reference (read-only) translation memory

You can chose whether to search the reference TM first or not.

I think that in the Professional version there is not such restriction, however.


I can confirm this. Works like a charm in the Professional version.

This is incredible!! With all older versions of Trados Freelance it was possible to run multiple TMs, and now after spending money to upgrade to Trados 8, that feature is lost??? The 2nd TM feature in the Concordance tab is not the same: Workbench only searches one TM, and if it finds the term, it doesn't search the 2nd TM. So it is now impossible to search 2 or more TMs simultaneously, though you've invested into a "better" product? That is crazy!
