Hi,

The following is part of "getting start" manual of SDLX

Supported File Formats
SDLX supports multiple file formats. Another term for file formats is “Filters”. These are the filters that SDLX uses:

C Adobe® InDesign® CS/CS2 (only available if you have Adobe InDesign installed on your PC)............
.....

Is this mean that I can not open an InDesign file unless I have InDesign installed on my computer?

If yes, is there any free version of InDesign?

Regards,

Mohammad

This is right, you have to have InDesign installed in order to handle InDesign files in SDLX (as is the case with any other applications I think...?)
Given the price of the software I don't think you will find a free version, however it is possible to download an evaluation version from Adobe's Web site.

Regards,

Annelise

Can I instead use the ClipBoard command?

What I read in the manual is that the files that are not supported by SDLX can be used in SDLX through copying them into clipboard.

Thanks for the reply,

Mohammad

You can use Trados Tageditor Aug 31, 2007

TE does not need Indesign installed.

Have you tried that (with the newest SDLX version), Annelise?

Deja Vu X can handle InDesign files without InDesign being installed. I thought SDLX could do that too, maybe you just have to try?

Confirmation Aug 31, 2007

Hi Harry,

I have just checked the doc to make sure that was still true in the 2007 version. It is still not possible to prepare InDesign CS files for translation within SDLX if you don't have both SDLX and InDesign installed on your computer.

Cheers,
Annelise

Correction Aug 31, 2007

I double-checked it in DVX and noticed that DVX can handle InDesign .inx files (and I have tried this already), but there is no mention of Indesign CS files.

I don't know the difference between .inx and .cs, but I guess that you would just have to ask a potential InDesgin client to send his files in .inx format?

Cheers,

Harry

Déjà Vu X Aug 31, 2007

Hi,

DVX is an acronym for Déjà Vu X from www.atril.com

Compared to SDLX 2003 it is similar but not quite as simple because of its greater functionality.
