I am new to SDLX. I wonder how to start translating a Word File using SDLX since "open new file" is not active on File on the menu bar.

Project wizard Sep 19, 2007

You have to start a new project and use project wizard, which will create an itd-file in a new folder namend after the target language. You better put the source files (copy) into a seperate folder, as the wizard easily grabs all files (all rtf or doc) it sees in the source folder.
So create a new folder, copy source files into it, start the wizard and select the files.

in SDL Edit Sep 19, 2007

Hi Peter,

the quickest way is to open SDl Edit (open SDLX, then click on the Edit module in the switchboard).
click File/New translation or click tht icon showing a blank page in the upper-left corner of the creen. Select the format of the file you need to translate (Word), pick your source and target languages and leave the default segmentation options untouched. Your file opens in Edit.
Once translated, click on the Preview translation icon (the eye) to get back your translation in Word.
As Heinrich pointed it out, it is best to keep the source version of your file in a separate folder, since the preview operation might "clean" it.

Hope it helps!

Annelise
