Any idea on how to translate form controls in Word? An example CONTROL Forms.CheckBox.1 which appears in the Word document as a checkbox with text beside it. "Form field options" is unavailable in Forms toolbar.
Thanks in advance.

Tageditor also does not enter the field content Nov 1, 2007

Field content is - at least in Trados as I know it - by its nature not accessible for translation. Fields are treated as TAGs or placeables, but are not translatable.
What I usually do in such situation is to translate the document as usual, what involves of course doing this in Tageditor, and then go to each field and translate its content manually. In most cases this is faster than any other solution. However, if you have a lot of fields, it will be a play of patience. You may also use T-Window for Clipboard to translate all contents - by copying the selected part of the text (ie field entry) to Windows Clipboard you an make it accessible for translation with Trados. But again - a lot of patience will be involved.

As for rtf-conversion - in my very pesonal opinion this is the "last ressort" and the worsest advice I could get. Any conversion of a Word doc to rtf bears the risk the doc will be damaged. In my work I always try to avoid this conversion by all means, so that's why if I work with Word I never do a cleanup in Workbench for delivery purposes, but only for updating the TM, but then using a copy of the dociment I usually discard after that process. The file for delivery is always cleaned using the Word macro tw4winclean.main.

TOPIC STARTER
I ask, I answer Nov 2, 2007

The answer is simple, yet it took me a while to find it:
- View -> Toolbars -> Control Toolbox
- Click on Design Mode button
- Right-click on the form field to translate
- Click on Properties button in the Control Toolbox button
- Translate (the field Caption in the Properties window holds the text to be translated)

By the way, I do not use TagEditor, because it is a poor editor compared to Word. I hate the way TagEditor handles text and, as I have documents with embedded objects, they are invisible in TagEditor and I don't like to process them in Word afterwards, when I could have done so from the very beginning.
