Hi,

I tried to run Find & Replace function in Translator's Workbench for a tm database. It is not happening. Does anyone know the proper way to run 'Find & Replace' function.

Please let me know about the proper procedure, if anyone know.

Thank you

Maintenance Dec 20, 2007

Hi,
Choose File --> Maintenance.
Click Find and replace.
Enter text to be replaced.
Click OK.
Click Begin search.
Click Change.
Select the option you need.

Or you could export the TM, replace your terms in the TXT file Notepad and re-import the export.

Good luck,
Renée

Use Filter Dec 20, 2007

The Find and Replace method certainly works, but it is often a good idea to filter first.

Select Maintenance, then Filter, and select an item in the Field list. Suppose you want to change a word in the target text to a different word, say 'positive' to 'negative', highlight the target language, and in the Criterion enter *positive* (complete with asterisks).
Then OK, and Begin Search.

This will select only target segments containing that word. Then use Find and Replace as described by other people here.

You can set up quite complex filters, for example to replace a particular word after a certain date.

Well worth getting familiar with the filter for best results.

Still having some confusion Dec 24, 2007

Thank you very much for the precious information given by Radek (procedure), Renée (TXT option) and Peter Linton (Filter).

@ Peter Linton

I know that setting the filter before executing the 'Find & Replace' function in TW is recommended. But, I am bit confused with this procedure. Could you please help me in this regard.

After setting the 'Filter', the 'Find & Replace' and after clicking on 'Begin Search' will you be able to see both segments.

Because, I am unable to see the segments and the 'Change' button is disabled.

I think, either I am doing some wrong step or missing an important step. Or is it related to something else?

Thank you

how to filter Jan 22, 2008

Hi Mana,
Maybe your problem has been solved, but to be sure:
maybe you selected filter criteria that did not exist in your TM?
Good luck,
Renée

Filter Settings Jan 23, 2008

Hi Renée,

Ja, I have not given any Filters in Translator's Workbench > Settings > Filter Settings

I know not much about filters in Workbench.
Could you please explain the same through a simple example.

Nice Day!

Filters Jan 25, 2008

Hi,

Search & replace in TM:

Choose File --> Maintenance.
Click Find and replace.
Enter text to be replaced.
Select any filters you wish*
Click OK.
Click Begin search.
Click Change.
Select the option you need.

*Use of filters: say you want replace General with Global in the target segments, but only of the segments entered on january 1st. In that case you would:
Click Filter.
Select the field Created on in the list Fields.
Enter the date (1-1-2008) in the box Criterion.
Click Add.
Click OK.
Of course you should only select fields that are in your TM (when creating a TM you can define wchich fields will be included in the TM), otherwise to occurrence will be replaced.

But if you just want to change any occurrence of General with Global, you don't need any filtering...
Good luck,
Renée
