Hi all,

I bought the Trados version last summer (SDL 2007). I had some problems importing TM's and actually I put the whole package aside.

Is there a Trados for Dummies version available?

kind regards,

Frédéric

my probs Jan 7, 2008

I used to work with Trados 5 at school. I decided to buy the new version 7 and hoped that I could use my previously made translations and compile them into a TM.

Now I'm quite lost in the manuals SDL provided hence my search for a trados for dummies.

What is the format of the previous translations?
1.) If they are Trados bilingual files you can clean them up and add the segment pairs to the TM easily.
2.) If they are monolingual files you'll have to align them. You can do that with Winalign!, which is part of the Trados package, but is very user-unfriendly. The alignment module of Wordfast's PlusTools is a far better choice – and it is free.

If you face TM-incompatibility issues, consider downloading a TM editor such as Olifant.

If you've used Trados 5... Jan 7, 2008

... you probably don't need the elderly but still very useful bare-bones guide compiled by Life Jensen, mentioned in this thread:

Your PDF manuals should be in your program directory at:

SDL International\SDL Trados 2007 Freelance\Documentation

Best,

Giles

Do you have your previous translations as bilingual files (TTX, BIF, DOC or RTF) or old Trados TM?

re your messages Jan 7, 2008

Hey thank you all for the messages.

I use DOC files and would like to use the content for further translations just to guarantee the consistency of my translations.

I tried to align the translations and hurra it worked... Now I only have to find out where my results of this alignment are saved for future use.

but i'm back on track ...
