Since SDLX discontinued the "Professional" version (there used to be
three different versions - Elite, geared towards agencies, Professional
and Freelance) I have been wondering what to do with my SDLX 2005
Professional licence. I have been informed that I could not "downgrade"
it to SDL Trados 2007 Freelance, but only upgrade it to the Professional
version. This would set me back more than €1,000 - which seems a bit too
much considering that I don't need to work with a lot of languages and I
do not need to share TMs. OTOH, I wouldn't want to have to give up the
ability to use the Apply and Analyse functions...
I was at a stall until I realized that I have an old licence for Trados
Freelance 5.5, hence my question:
if I upgrade from Trados 5.5 Freelance to SDL Trados 2007 Freelance
_and_ keep my SDLX 2005 Professional licence, would this allow me to
keep both programs up and running at the same time on two different
machines?
In other words, would I have 2 licences or just one? Common sense
suggests that 1 + 1 makes 2, but the sales representatives I talked to
didn't give me a definite answer (nor were they able to explain in
detail the *real* differences between the two versions, but this is
another matter entirely).
On a related note, could I run two different versions of the program on the same machine with *2 different licences*, or would I have to mess with the registry to switch between them?

Many thanks for any input,

Mirella

P.S.: I think that the "intermediate" version was a nice option to have,
and I'm very disappointed that it has been discontinued.
