Updating from Trados 7.0 to SDL Trados 2007- can I use old TMs?

Hi there,

I plan to update from Trados 7.0 to SDL Trados 2007 (as Trados 7.0 does not work with Word 2007 as I heard). Now it would be very important for me to know whether I can use my old translation memories (.tmw-files).

Are there any other problems when updating? Is it worth the trouble?

Thanks for any comments

Christiane

just to be on the safe side, you can convert the tm to tmx first.

That means it does work? Feb 13, 2008

So that means it actually works? I can use the Export function and actually use the old TMs in SDL Trados? Did you try? Has anybody done this?

I asked SDL and they said "it probably works" but I have to know for sure as I need my TMs - my capital, so to say.

I'm using my Trados 6.5 TMs in SDL/Trados 2007 and they work beautifully. If the 6.5 ones work, I imagine the 7.0 ones will as well.

tmx = standard Feb 14, 2008

afaik, tmx is supposedly the standard of translation memory. so if you export your tm to tmx, you can also use it with many other cat tools. tmx has also been supported by trados since... version 6.5? cmiiw.
