Hola, estoy traduciendo unos documentos que tienen varios cuadros de texto, lo cuales no aparecen en vista normal, solamente se ven en vista diseño de impresión, el problema es que cuando empiezo a traducir con Trados, hay parte del texto que desaparece del cuadro, por lo que no veo ni lo que escribo, ni lo que tengo que traducir, ¿Qué puedo hacer?

Hello Florencia,
I'll post the answer in English since this is an English forum. Trados can't work inside text boxes, it doesn't count the words inside of them, it doesn't segment the text in them. As far as I know the only CAT tool that properly works inside text boxes is Star Transit. However, with Trados you can use T-Windows for Clipboard so you can keep using your TM. You can always translate the text manually but I prefer T-Window.

... you should use TagEditor and not Word. TagEditor also translates text boxes. T-Windows is only a last means.
When asking questions, write in English and indicate, file format, Trados version and Office version (if using Word).

You could analyse the file and export the unknown segments and then translate this file in Word (it would only contain the segments that need translating including the segments in the text boxes). Once you have finished translating, you can pretranslate your original file and the text box segments will be automatically translated.

You can also extract the box-content using Werecat and translate in Word.

If you want to translate a text box in Word rather than TagEditor, copy the content of the text box to a blank document and translate it there. Then copy the entire translated segment (including source segment and Trados codes) back into the source document to replace the original content of the text box.

If you want to try Marijke's suggestion, this is the step-by-step procedure:
1. Create an empty TM
2. Tools/Analyse the file
3. Export unknown segments (99%) - save as RTF
4. Translate the RTF file using the TM(s) of your choice
5. Tools/Cleanup the RTF into the empty TM
6. Tools/Translate the original file
7. Clean up into the TM of your choice

The only caveat is that if you send your bilingual files to your client and you're giving a discount for TM matches, any segments you translate this way will be marked as 100% matches. In my case it doesn't generally matter, but anyone who offers such discounts needs to be careful with this approach.

As the text boxes have often fixed measurments, it is not easy to translate the text within them. One has to resize the text box, but then after you're finished you should resize the text box back again to its original size.
While the fact should be quite clear, that to translate the text within the text box you have to click in the box in order to place the cursor there, so the resizing or the box itself may be somehow not known. The better way (and maybe also the easier) is to right-click the text box, chose the "formatting" option (I do not know the proper English name, but you'll find it out easilly, when right clicking) and there chose the "measurments" or "size" tab. Click there in the field for height and place a single "1" in front of the original measurment. This will make the box bigger (higher) by 10 cm - and you'll be able to translate the text within the box without having it disappearing behind the box boarder. This works for nearly all text boxes - only for such not, which are located near to the lower page edge.
But you can forget about all that, if you go for Tageditor.
