but ignoring the problem and people won't solve the issue IMO.
Nevermind)

How would you know when it is possible?
If you ask some question it is not good to restrict incoming opinions. They might be useful.
My advice: train your will.
Train you will in forums, as there are no "suppress/ignore" buttons on people in the real life.

TOPIC STARTER
Star Wars
Feb 19, 2010
I'm really starting to feel like I'm in an episode of Star Wars ("Use the Force, Luke!"), or even worse - The Karate Kid ("Wax On, Wax Off.")
I made a suggestion with reference to the forum, not to real life.
Now I'm going to take my weak, unbalanced, emotionally unintelligent self away from this thread, and I really doubt I'll be back. Too busy Sanding the Floor. Right Circle, Left Circle, Right Circle, Left Circle. Breathe....

You have my support, Fiona...

no matter if you come back to this thread or not.
Personally, I sometimes find it rude when people ignore/disregard correct and precise answers in the fora (e.g. about CAT tools) and have the nerve to repost the very same question 2 days or a week later.
The same applies for specific local questions in the ad hoc fora, not to speak about the KIA who feel the need to write down their own reformulated version of the same answer just below someone else's post.
I do wish there would be an Ignore filter available in the ProZ.com fora, so I would not even see such questions.
Translation is said to include comprehension, that is at least what I assume. Do I assume too much?

"it would not negatively affect you unless you push back"

As for me, I'm still learning to take 'bad' things as they are
and accept 'bad' people as mere 'naughty children'.
Acceptance is always good advice, DZiW. I personally don't believe there is such thing as a bad person, only bad feelings they invoke in us. Even that is only possible if we allow it to happen. No one can annoy us to the point that we have to run to the mods unless we let them. Abraham (through Esther & Jerry Hicks) says it best:
"Because others cannot vibrate in your experience, they cannot affect the outcome of your experience. They can hold their opinions, but unless their opinion affects your opinion, their opinion matters not at all. A million people could be pushing against you, and it would not negatively affect you unless you push back. They are affecting what happens in their experience. They are affecting their point of attraction -- but it does not affect you unless you push against them."

I'm with Dziw/Michael/Pablo et al. I see nothing wrong in suggesting that maybe a certain button is not needed because most adults are able to ignore certain things — especially forum posts — instead of allowing them to make an emotional impact. If somebody considers it rude to point out, it must be the cultural differences or something.

I'm with you, Fiona!
Feb 19, 2010
I hope you're still here to read this, Fiona. I support your suggestion. Other forums and message boards that I frequent have "ignore" buttons. I seldom use them, because I have too much curiosity; I'm always afraid I'll miss something! But when a particular user shows a consistent pattern of provocative, disrespectful, and unhelpful behavior, that user is wasting my time.
Those who have contributed to this thread have a right to express their opinions, as you have a right to express yours. I hope none of them intended to attack you personally, though I agree with Cindy that some of the responses had a "lecturing" tone that I didn't care for.
I like your suggestion and would like to see an option for filtering forum users. In my opinion, a wise user would use that option very sparingly, but that should be each user's choice.
