See more Dear all Finnish-related members, I was triggered some months ago to ask this question at http://www.proz.com/topic/17538 . I have now sent the question to 100 members within the eng>fin group to ask for their opinion. I have also asked the poster, Heli Kajander ( http://www.proz.com/pro/10974 ) if she would accept becoming its moderator. What do you all think about asking Henry to create a Finnish Forum? I do not know at all how the situation is - (Ei ymmerä soumea mutta puhun erinomaisen hyvin ) I just feel like making complete the 'Nordic Bouquet' at ProZ.com Please let your voice be heard Best regards Mats J C Wiman Übersetzer/Translator/Traducteur/Traductor > swe http://www.MatsWiman.com http://www.Deutsch-Schwedisch.com http://www.proz.com/pro/1749 (Proz.com moderator, deu>swe, Swedish) Träsk 201 SE-872 97 Skog Schweden/Sweden/Suède/Suecia Tel:+46-612-54112 Fax:+46-612-54181 Mobile:+46-70-5769797 ▲ Collapse

I think it is a good idea to have a Finnish forum. Maybe it would be wise to have a list of moderators instead of only one (though it seems hard to find even one to volunteer...). Let us create a pleasant, professional atmosphere for discussion. Täytyyhän meidän perustaa oma foorumi suomalaisille kääntäjille, eikö totta? Ottakaa kantaa, hyvät kollegat!

Agree for a Finnish forum | Jul 4, 2004 |
Yeah, I agree, but without wanting to discourage you guys, there might not be lots of people around. People having lots of work don't have time to spend on these things. There's such a forum at TC and as far as I know, not many postings. However, the idea is good, at least for those who are just starting in the business. Finding a moderator (or moderators) may be the hardest thing. It's good to get together, but perhaps most of us have already other means for that? ... Heinrich Pesch Finland Local time: 12:54 Member (2003) Finnish to German + ... Why not try it? | Jul 5, 2004 |
Finnish speaking translators and interpreters communicate mostly thru the translat mailing list. For me it's too messy, so I do not go there, but if you want to come people to Proz.com for exchange of messages you should advertise the new forum at translat. For Wordfast-related questions there exists a list at yahoo. Most Finns use Wordfast, only few Trados.

I think it's a good idea! OK, people might be busy but so what, I'm still sure there will be people who have time/energy and enthusiasm to contribute to the forum. Besides, many times you can actually save time by communicating with other translators. So, why not!
Yes for the forum | Jul 6, 2004 |
Yep, absolutely. And yes, people tend to get busy, but we all have some less hectic moments here and there - and it's not like every other forum is always used every single day, either. So I'd be all for the idea, too. And have to agree with Heinrich about the translat list, it tends to be very scrambled and at least I seem to get some weirdly scripted posts (all the ä's and ö's messed up), which makes it hard and time consuming to read. I might volunteer to be a co-moderator if you need one - I do spend half of my day (ok I'm lying; most of my day) in front of a comp anyway. Let me know how things go. *Wishing for a warmer weather around here*, Susan ▲ Collapse

More support | Jul 12, 2004 |
I also support the Finnish forum! I have just moved from the Netherlands back to Finland and 4 years abroad have made it difficult to fit in here. I would love to talk to other people who have moved back or are living abroad or are thinking of moving back. Marjukka
