Does anyone know if there is an affordable upgrade option from 5.5 Freelance to 6 Freelance?
Also, is it worth it as fas as new functionality is concerned?
thank you,
Csaba (Hu)

Depends on your current version May 26, 2003

Hi Csaba,
There is a variety of upgrading possibilities (including upgrading freelance licenses to SPS); the exact price depends on the version you currently use.

The most important new feature I have seen in a demo at CeBIT was in WinAlign, where you can now edit segments much more flexibly than with 5.0/5.5.

Can't give you practical experience yet, since DHL was unable to deliver the CD's so far...

Best, Ralf

It is quite affordable indeed May 26, 2003

As Ralf stated, it depends on the version you use.

I have TRADOS 5.5 including T-Window Collection and Multiterm iX. Previously I purchased TRADOS 3.0 and paid the full price (it was a pain...). Then I upgraded to 5.0, paying only something about 300 EUR (I don´t remember the exact amount). All further upgrades to 5.5 and T-Window Collection/Multierm iX were free.
So now I paid only approx. 69 EUR including shipment and taxes. This is no pain anymore...
I must admit, I have not installed my TRADOS 6.0 yet, even if I have it since the end of April, because I cannot risk any maulfunction of my PC now due to deadlines for my actual projects.

Kind regards
Jerzy

Danke / dziekuje May 26, 2003

Thank you for your insights. An outlay of 69 euros won't hurt too much, so I will most probably go for it.

Possibly this offer has allready expired... May 26, 2003

Sorry for confusing some of you.
It seems, that the offer I got has allready expired. At Translationzone you can find only an upgrade offer for 295 EUR.
At the time I ordered (April 03) the offer was 45 EUR (plus shipment and tax).

Kind regards
Jerzy

My experience upgrading Trados 5.5 to Trados 6.0 May 26, 2003

Hello Csaba,
I received an Early Bird offer from a Trados Representative in February for 195 USD plus Free Shipping (I guess the "benefit" of this Early Bird Offer was the free shipping.)

I did not upgrade it at that time, but I upgraded it in April for 195 USD plus 15 USD shipping. I was quite surprised to hear some other pricing for upgrading Trados 5.5 to Trados 6.0, because mine was about four times higher... I will be more careful next time before I upgrade it (as far as checking prices from different sites and Reps.)
HTH,
Monika

Where exactly can I buy that upgrade? May 27, 2003

I have exactly the same product but I cannot find this upgrade option on the Translationzone web site.

Where exactly can you buy that upgrade?

I said "I paid" May 27, 2003

And not, that this offer is still valid.
I´m really sorry, because this is what I paid in April, but now I can only find an offer for 295 EUR at Translationzone.
And I cannot tell why, as I´m not related to Trados in any way.
In March or April I read a brief note about upcomming of Trados 6.0, and because I had some problems with extended polish characters in Trados 5.5, I asked in Stuttgart for the ordering possibility and pricing. They told me to look on TZ, where I later found a statement, that I could order by April 17th. So I did - for EUR 45 plus 15 EUR shipment plus tax.

That´s all

Kind regards
Jerzy

Contact your local Trados office May 27, 2003

...who will be able to quote an upgrade price, based on the license(s) you hold.

Best regards, Ralf

I was thinking... May 30, 2003

is it possible to do a group buying upgrade? The price I just got from Trados in Stuttgart was EUR195. Maybe they'd do us all a deal if we did a group buy for upgrading 5.5 freelance to 6 freelance?
