Hi,
The rumour spreads that floods in Thailand affect the prices of hardware. Well, I had a strange experience today that might confirm that. I wanted to buy a portable disk, so I go to some IT Mall in Bangkok (as I live here, I did not go just to check). I find the Essential SE Passport from WD in a first shop for 8470 Baths, say 210 euros, second, 8510 baths, this seems a bit expensive and in a third one, in another floor, but same chain as the first one, 3770 baths, 90 euros !!!
Ok I buy, I go back to the shops, I check, same box, same mentions (USB 3.0 , 1 To, bla, bla, bla). Ok, I go on, I found twice a price over 200 euros and another small booth sold again under 100 euros.
I go home, check the disk, it works, mmmh, Ok, I check the prices on french websites (I am french so these one come first on my Windows), the prices for this model are evenly distributed in the range of 80 euros to 150 euros, so the same 100 % difference !!!
I don't remember having seen such a difference of price on a recent and widespread technology product. This might be the floods here but I heard the prices of disks would increase by only 10 % within the end of the year. Did I miss something ?
