Hi,

a quick question from a newbie:

do I have to pay VAT when I buy Trados as a freelance translator?

Depends Jan 16

It depends. If you're VAT registered, you don't have to pay VAT (or at least you can reclaim it later). If you're not VAT registered, you'll have to pay VAT like anyone else. IMHO, you should seriously consider registering for VAT before even starting your business (unless your clients will predominantly be private consumers). But views on this issue differ somewhat, there has been a discussion about this recently:

Kind regards,
Erik
