I have just been contacted by an agency regarding a project for which they required me to have Transit (I don\'t know which version). However, I have a Mac (PowerBook G4 with OS 9.1.4) and I don\'t think any of the CAT tools - except Wordfast - are Mac compatible. Am I right? I know it may be possible if you install a virtual PC or something like that, but maybe it\'s not worth it. From what I\'ve read, Transit does not seem to be one of the most popular CAT tools. I contacted Star earlier this year with the same question, and they were adamant that it wouldn\'t run on Mac, even using a PC emulator for reasons to do with the file architecture. So unless your job is big enough to justify buying a PC...

SDL are confident that SDLX works OK with Virtual PC. Also it doesn\'t need a dongle (unlike Trados) and it\'s purported to be fairly quick to learn.

Wordfast is what I use, purely out of personal interest and to find out a bit more about what CAT tools can do. If a client requested it specifically, I would resist because I don\'t really handle the sort of technical or repetitive texts to justify it. Also it can play up at critical moments!

So - please note, Mac-only disclaimer - it\'s best to treat Wordfast as beta software until you find a version that works reliably on your particular Mac set-up.

Good luck - Deborah
