Thanks Tomás Jun 5, 2009

Thanks Tomás for pointing us to the presentation.

I believe that the wave approach will work very well for projects. I also believe that it may begin to swing the balance of power back towards translators and away from PMs.

At the moment, the PM sits in the centre of a web of email communication. The other members of a team may not even know who is on the team.

'Wave' communication may mean that a PM can manage more projects because the team is more capable of self management, but it will also lessen the 'Queen Bee' status that PMs currently enjoy. Team members may be able to privately discuss points (like pay and deadlines) and collectively offer their services to others.

Indeed! We were discussing exactly that yesterday here in the team. We agreed that it would be fantastic as queries and responses would be managed by the translators themselves in a multilingual wider team, instead of forcing the PM to act as a hub spawning tons of branches in the conversation. Of course we don't need to know who the customer is, as the PM can keep the communication with the customer in private while sharing the customer's responses with us all.

Thank you!! Jun 17, 2009

Thank you Nabil!! Indeed all those were the possibilities that jumped to my mind when I saw Google's Wave presentation to developers.

I immediately thought: "Wow, I want to sit there and translate everything on the go for a fixed charge!". My clients would only need to add me to the wave, and I would see the document or parts to be professionally translated by a specialist translator and not by a clumsy machine. It would be a tremendous feeling to be able to work in that dynamic way! And matters about payment, and even my electronic invoice, could be in a private subbranch of the conversation. So all could be dealt with inside the wave... all with just a browser!

Thank you for sharing the information about your blog!
