A new agency has contacted me and will supply me with regular work if I buy the Systran Business Translator software from them (at a very good discount!). What do you think? Has anyone got experience with Systran? What do you recommend?

Thanks you for your replies.

Thank you Aug 13, 2008

Thank you so much Marie-Claude, I'm sure it's a scam now. Same procedure, having to download Yahoo messenger for an interview, same discount to systran price, same everything...I have looked at their website and they are in the US and have an office in Nigeria and the guy I was in touch with is the guy in Nigeria, all very dodgy.

Thank you so much again!!!

discounted Systran Business Translator v6 resold via agency seems like scam Jan 24, 2009

Having worked for Systran and having used Systran software for many years, I have given my view on this at:
http://www.proz.com/forum/business_issues/113812-company_asks_for_systrans.html#1038985

and also at the link provided about about where this was also discussed.

It sounds very bizarre to me too.

Jeff

They contacted me today! Feb 9, 2009

Hi all,
I was contacted today by John Francis .
www.wordsolutions.com
P:6462916552
F:1-414-345-2346

Same scheme. They offered me a very high rate and continuous work if I buy Systran. Their website already looked very dodgy, as well as the fact that the guy had a Yahoo account.

Thanks very much for making me aware of this scam!

Margherita

The forum is very useful indeed! Perhaps there should be a sub-forum called warnings against agencies, scam etc

Thanks Mar 4, 2009

I have been contacted by the same person, I just realized. As I new in the freelance field, I got this e-mail offer of regular translation work at a very high rate which I to begin with thought to be a bit weird. Still I until now had almost made up my mind to get the software anyhow and to take the chance anyhow. Until I saw these posts.

Thank you very much all who reported this.

Too good to be true?! Mar 18, 2009

Hi everyone,

This guy is now expanding his "marketing efforts" to the Japanese translator segment.

..., and then the next one, after I asked for "details".
==quote==

choose to continue or not.We have a long term project for

the kind of companies and the kind of project we are doing. We also require that
you get Systran software..Even as you start work and we can send one for you at

I especially like the part where he offers to "briefly give you details". Ha Ha!!
"brief detail" would be a tough one to translate. Perhaps we should put it on KudoZ!!

Anyway, as they say, "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."

Hiroki

The guy is expanding into the Italian market too. Mar 19, 2009

He sent the message to me and to a long list of Italian translators whose addressed showed in the email address area and therefore were visible to me.
The www.webnodetranslation.com website does not exist when I googled it.

I am another "victim" Mar 19, 2009

Hi everyone,

here is another victim of this guy's "marketing efforts". First of all, I would like to thank Teresa Gomez who has sent me the link for this discussion, and has advised me to read it before answering this gentleman's message. I also thank all of you for your comments.
Of course, I have not answered his e-mail. Before reading Teresa's message and your discussions, I decided to ignore it, because this gentleman's approach was not professional at all: no salutation, no personal signature, and the names of the other recipients where all shown. This was enough for me, for not answering. Now I am reading the rest about him. I will inform all my colleagues about this scam.

Regards,
Pietro
