Android tablets' applications

Hello,

I'm a second year student of translation in Argentina, and I was wondering whether to buy a netbook or a tablet. You might be wondering what for: well, I just want one to use it as a tool (chekcing dictionaries and web pages) during my translation tests or excercises at home, because carrying a bag full of dictionaries for an hour and a half is annoying... I don't want to use them for typing my work, so that's why I've been considering tablets, which are cheaper and easier to carry.

My question is: Do you know if there are good and useful applications for tablets with Android OS? With "good and useful applications" I mean complete monolingual and bilingual dictionaries like the ones that can be used in a typical desktop computer mainly (for example, Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English, Oxford Spanish, Merriam-Webster, María Moliner, etc.)

I think some answers and/or personal experiences would clarify my doubts.

I'm new in the forum, my translation teacher recommended it to the class, I hope I could help you too in the near future.

Thanks in advance.

Santiago

A netbook Sep 23, 2011

Personally I would go for a netbook, i.e. a computer with a compatible operating system that will allow you to run and evaluate CAT tools, dictionaries, and other software for our profession, which in a vast majority are Windows-based. If you get an Android-based device, I reckon you will have much lower chances of testing and learning the profession's standard tools.

Just my opinion!

You're right, most programs are Windows-based... I'll take that into account.

Thank you very much!
