Someone sent me a .png file today, which I couldn't open. But I found and installed a free software package, "Free File Viewer", which enabled me to open it and which looks as if it might be useful for many other types of file which I could not otherwise open. It can be downloaded from http://www.freefileviewer.com/?src=ffv&v=20110928
Apologies if this is not the right place to post this.

Paint?

Hello Jack,
You should be able to open (and edit) a png file in MS Paint.
If you look at the file filters, it's listed.
Nicolas

You are right, Nicolas. I just tried it and it works. But Windows told me "You do not have software on your computer to open this file". Seems it was wrong. Anyway, I'm still glad to have Free File Viewer.

Irfanview

For MS Windows, I’d recommend Irfanview. It’s capable of viewing lots of graphic file formats and converting them, as well as performing some editing tasks.
