Same here Apr 4, 2007

I had the same message this morning, I guess it's due to the last Windows Update?

You are certainly not alone... Apr 4, 2007

You're quite right, Françoise.

Microsoft have issued a hotfix to solve this little problem. You can read an explanation and download the hotfix from:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935448

Best,

Giles

No need for hotfix Apr 8, 2007

My friend Mr.Mukundan, solved the problem for me in an elegant manner.

He went to MSconfig>startup>uncheck RTHDCPL from the list. And restarted the system. The startup dialog vanished. He said it does not involve any useful feature and may be probably a dormant virus. As such no hotfix required.

He also said that it is not a built-in windows feature. Hence his suspicion that it might be virus.

Have a nice Easter Sunday

N.Raghava

Hello Narasimhan,

Thank you for the tip which confirms my suspicions. Hotfix fixed the problem, but RTHDCPL was still there. However, not in my 'add-remove programs' but in the windows task manager. I removed it and my tower stopped making all kinds of funny noises.

A nice Easter to you too...
