PDF converter or wordcount software for Mac ?

Hello,

Do you know a software of that type for iMac ? The most common are for PC (Anycount, etc)? TIA

Hi Laurence,

Unfortunately, my favourite OCR program Abbyy FineReader seems to be discontinued for Mac. The last version was 5.0 (from November 2001!), and it runs only on OS9

There are some near top contenders, but they are overpriced and also seem to lag behind on the development - the versions are "older" than the current Windows version:

For tagged PDFs, there is of course always the option of extracting the text straight from acrobat, but I still find the interface very limited compared to a dedicated OCR program. And it doesn't handle extraction from scanned/flattened PDFs or images.

If you have a recent Mac, I recommend you to use Bootcamp and boot into Windows. If you have an older Mac, maybe run VirtualPC. That way, you can grab the latest FineReader for Windows, it's worth it!
