I have a PDF-file with tables that I need to convert into Word (quickly). Can someone give me a hint of which tool I can use to convert this PDF-file into Word and still keep the tables intact?

Useful tool Dec 13, 2007

Hi,
this tool is cheap and works well:

Personally I can't garantee for your tables, but you should be able to download a free trial version.
Good luck.

Abbyy Fine Reader Dec 13, 2007

will certainly do the trick.
However, I would at once drop all thoughts you'll get the file converted to Word with no additional work.
My way would be keeping no formatting from PDF at all and formatting the file from scratch, which is much faster than any other option.

Best regards
Jerzy

Page doesn't work Dec 13, 2007

Hi,
Was interested in this thread and so I tried to download the BlueSquad software trial version, and it's not working for me - instead another window pops up trying to get me to subscribe to another product's newsletter. Did you encounter this too?

I just bought Abbyy PDF Transformer Dec 13, 2007

It's a lot cheaper than Abbyy Fine Reader ($99.99) and suits my needs - it converts PDF to Word and vice versa. I've been getting pretty good results so far - I used Able2Doc in the past but it was pretty weak. You can download it for a two week free trial (which I did), during which you can convert up to 50 pages.

Is your PDF an image file or a text file? Dec 13, 2007

If you try to select part of the table with the text selection tooltip, does that work? Or is your document a fax or a scan? That is a major question here.

In case you are dealing with a text file (where you can select, copy and paste the text inside the file), then there is no need to buy anything - the solution is free.

If you try to select part of the table with the text selection tooltip, does that work? Or is your document a fax or a scan? That is a major question here.

In case you are dealing with a text file (where you can select, copy and paste the text inside the file), then there is no need to buy anything - the solution is free.

AutoUnbreak is a tool that cuts the text out of a PDF document and pastes it into a word processor as RTF. It will delete unnecessary line breaks and keep the formatting. However, it can only handle 65K characters at a time, so if your document is longer than a dozen pages, you may have to do several runs to process the entire document.

If your document is an image file (e.g., scan), then you will need OCR and you should go with the solutions proposed by colleagues above.

You can download AutoUnbreak here: http://digital.hollmen.dk/products/autounbreak/index.htm

Tell us how it worked out.

All the best!

Edit: If you are looking for awesome OCR software, try Nuance's OmniPage. It's a little more expensive than other solutions, but it is worth it - the results are stunning!

BTW, this question has been asked here on the forum litteraly 100's of times.
Try searching for these terms in the Forum Search window: +PDF +convert

You'll get lots of relevant info...

Abbyy PDF Transformer

I tried the trial version out. Great, works with a few clicks. The results were
impressing and stable enough to perform a word count and finish a quote
in one step.

I added it to my Preparation Checklist for Translations:

PDF - Word Converter for Chinese Dec 15, 2007

Hi,

Thought I'd drop my own question into this thread - does anyone know of a PDF-Word converter that supports Chinese? I've been trying to find one for a while but the links suggested don't work with Chinese.

Thanks!

Diana

Hi Diana,

We did a round-up here on the Forum earlier this year. Read about all our findings here:

Since I did my posting, there was also a recommendation for this software:
