Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Spanish Translation/Interpreting Studies
Tenure-track position in Spanish Translation/Interpreting Studies starting
Fall 2004. Ph.D. (in hand by September 1, 2004) and native or near-native
Spanish and English required. Specialization in pre-20th-century Latin
American Literature. Credentials commensurate with potential appointment as
director of department’s Translation/Interpreting Studies Program.
Preparation in at least two of the following is required: critical theory,
cultural studies, film studies, gender studies, Border studies. Experience
in literary translation a plus. Knowledge of other Iberian languages and
cultures, indigenous languages, and/or pre-Colombian civilizations
desirable. Special consideration given to candidates who can teach
Portuguese. Teaching assignment may include both undergraduate and master’s
level courses in translation/interpreting, literature, culture, theory.
Demonstrated interdisciplinary teaching and research interests, ability to
work with students from diverse cultural backgrounds, and commitment to
teaching excellence and scholarship essential. Willingness to use
information technology for instruction preferred. Applicants must present a
coherent research agenda, provide evidence of teaching effectiveness, and
be willing to work collaboratively with administrators, colleagues, and
students as the department continues to engage in a process of redefinition
leading to the development of a new doctoral degree program. Review of
