Parece que hoy estamos en un día de festejos.
Nació el libro que tanto esperaba la comunidad de traductores.
Con profundo orgullo les cuento que la Universidad de Alicante ha sido la partera del libro Teoría general de la mediación interlingüe.
Vaya este brindis virtual para saludar al padre de la criatura, un colega a quien admiro profundamente, uno de los traductores más sabios y más generosos con los que me he cruzado.

Sé lo díficil que fue y el esfuerzo empleado en las contracciones.
Un gran libro para los que nos consideramos mediadores y no poco complejos traductores/intérpretes.

Sinceramente, es una gran alegría compartida por los que conocemos tu mirada apasionada y generosa sobre nuestra profesión.
Estuve mirando los datos del libro, el índice, etc, en la dirección que mandó Cecilia y no veo la hora de leerlo!

Qué bueno que ya se publicó tu libro. Tu concepto de la mediación interlingüe me parece fascinante.
Creo que hablo por varios de nosotros si digo que fue un alivio y una alegría ver que semejante autoridad lingüística –Sergio Viaggio- convalidaba esa sospecha nuestra de que en traducción (o en mediación interlingüe ) no es tan fundamental ser absolutamente fiel al texto original como lo es transmitir la ide... Cito de tu libro:
The competing claims on the mediator’s loyalty
Loyalty is the compass that allows a mediator to chart his strategic course. Specifically, loyalty will help him establish what counts as relevant LPIo/LPCi under the specific circumstances. Basically, a mediator’s loyalty, like that of any other professional, is owed first and foremost to his profession..... a mediator’s loyalty is owed to whoever hires his services. A mediator may be recruited by the speaker/author, his interlocutor(s)/reader(s) or a third party. The latter is normally the case. There is, however, a difference between paying the piper and calling the tune. The mediator’s loyalty to the profession -and through it, to society at large- poses its own, I submit, supreme imperative to uphold, foster and develop ever more scientific professional norms. As a part of his loyalty to society at large, for instance, I think that a mediator should be at the forefront of good language use - although never at the expense of intelligibility. As an expert linguist, he has a mission to uphold, foster and help develop his language....... I am not asserting that mediators should be a conservative force, not at all: I am asserting, though, that, next to the great masters, and on a par with other professionals influencing use and taste (journalists, non literary writers, politicians, celebrities and, generally speaking, public personalities) they should help manage change and evolution. In this respect, mediators should be neither behind their users nor so far ahead of them as to become irrelevant. They should, I submit, remain with their users, but leading the way. Ideally, a mediator should be an expert linguist in the broadest sense of the word: an authority on his languages, an expert grammarian and a consummate communicator - in short, a true professional.

- LPI= Intended speech perceptual space -the ideational or noetic content that a speaker means “officially” to convey.
- LPC= Comprehended speech perceptual space - the ideational or noetic content “officially” perceived by a subject of comprehension.

Y gracias, Sergio, por tu espíritu docente y por tus lúcidas respuestas a mis legas preguntas sobre tu Theory (cuando yo elaboraba el artículo de “Coded Terms” para la ATA chronicle que cita aquí en otro hilo JL).
..... En cuanto a las ecuaciones de tu Theory, seguramente un día las llegaré a entender -cuando haya leído el libro por novena o décima vez

Gracias a tutti quanti por la frenética ovación! Realmente emocionado. Ojalá que el libro a) no sea demasiado caro y b) les guste.
