Quisiera saber si alguien me puede explicar lo siguiente. En la sección de \"Ultimos trabajos\" alguien ha puesto un trabajo de \"Proofreading\", pero para hacer la oferta hay que traducir un párrafo. Es esto correcto?

Sample text May 17, 2002

The \"sample text\" looks like a machine translation they want to have \"back-translated\" into Spanish.

If this is an example of what they want to have \"proofread,\" be careful when quoting a price! It will most likely have to be translated from scratch!

My two cents\' worth.

that's exactly what I did... May 17, 2002

I offered to retranslate the document at my regular rates.

The sample translation was horrible, to say the least.

Moños del presente May 17, 2002

For a job like this one, it would be prudent to ask for the Spanish original, otherwise the \"proofreading\" is basically a backtranslation, guessing the original Spanish, then translating it into English natively.

So what did you guess for the last part \"... and tend bows with the present.\" ?

My bet is that it was \"... y cuidar los lazos con el presente.\"

Just out of curiousity, what did other people get for this phrase?

Another pitfall to avoid... May 17, 2002

If this person had not posted a sample, we wouldn\'t have found out it was machine-translated until we got the actual work, because it doesn\'t say it anywhere that it was made by a machine or by a very incompetent person. We tend to assume a proofreading job means to proofread something translated by a fellow translator; this assumption may land us with a translation job to be done with proofreading rates... My, that would be fun.

Me, I\'m still puzzling over the masked his

Me, I\'m still puzzling over the masked historical personages; I wouldn\'t even have made it to the moños part.

yeah... May 17, 2002

I had figured \"mantener los lazos\" - \"maintain ties\" also.
