Hola a todos.
Estoy haciendo una traducción jurada (esp->eng) de varios documentos oficiales sobre títulos universitarios y certificado de CAP y no sé si debo traducir los mismos al inglés o si dejarlos en español y poner una nota a pie de página con lo que sería su equivalente en inglés, ya que después se hace mención a ellos en otros documentos que acreditan que la persona en cuestión obtuvo dichos títulos.

Como soy nueva en esto de las traducciones juradas reales (hasta ahora sólo las había hecho como ejercicios en la universidad), me gustaría asegurarme de una cosa: ¿La traducción debe ser toda seguida, sin dejar líneas en blanco, ni respetar párrafos, mayúsculas, etc., es decir, sin imitar el formato original?
Y por último, en las traducciones hacia el inglés, ¿es recomendable poner la certificación final de la traducción jurada tanto en español como en inglés?

The short explanation is: translators are not in a position to determine degree and course level equivalencies, a complex task that can only be performed by qualified officials at degree-awarding institutions. I speak from experience not only as a translator but as a retired academic: I sat for years on a university committee that developed the standards for admission, transfer and graduation from that institution. Once those standards were developed and approved by the university community and its officials, they became part of the tools with which the university registrar could work. Registrars are the *only* officials at an institution of higher learning who can evaluate such equivalencies. And they can only do so in terms of their own institution's standards. Not even they are in a position to "re-award" a degree earned elsewhere!
*Awarding* a degree means holding a ceremony and issuing a document, to bestow a status on the recipient. In this, degrees (and the levels of study leading up to the degree) are similar to *names* (of instititutions, brands, companies). If the entity has names in more than one language, then it becomes possible to select the already existing name in the target language, in place of the one used in the source language. If the name only exists in the source language, it does not fall to the translator to re-baptize the entity in a new language.
In like manner, we can only substitute the *name* of a degree when it already exists in the target language. Canadian degrees, for instance, have names in both French and English (or English and French...) Such is not the case for any Hispanic degrees, since their awarding is only done in Spanish. The best that we humble translators can do is to cite the *name* of the degree, and include a parenthetical explanation. ▲ Collapse

la respuesta anterior ha sido muy categórica, pero creo que siempre depende de tu valoración. Por ejemplo, acabo de traducir un título "Especialista Universitario" y, esta vez, sí que lo he traducido añadiendo una nota a pie de página con el nombre original y una brevísima explicación. Cosas como Licenciado o Diplomado tampoco traduzco (traducciones juradas al alemán) aunque luego siempre es un lío explicándoselo al cliente, claro.
