\" I

have been contacted by Joanna Posner (jposner@san.rr.com) on behalf of Grant

Media LLC to translate contents for a website (www.sex.com). When I asked

for the files to be translated she sent to me documents inciting EXPLICITLY

to pedophilia (keywords like \"child abuse\", \"children sex\" and

\"pedophilia\"). I turned down the job, rather coldly, contacted several

chilcare organisations, Interpol and Proz. I got answers from everybody

except from Proz. Until now, and though I directly contacted Henry, I

received no answer and the post is still on!\"

Dear listmates,

ProZ.com obviously does not tolerate any illegal activity

taking place or facilitated by using the site and we have

decided to delete the posting, whatever the actual file

contained, as a precaution.

In other words there is nothing on its wording that hints

at any actual illegal content. The site could not possibly

know about it judging from the posting, as it looked

innocuous enough.

The ProZ moderators have the tools for deleting improper

job postings and the warning issued on this list has prompted

a quick discussion followed swiftly by the deletion of the

offending posting.

The posting is now closed, see: http://www.proz.com/job?id=27244

If you have a chance to see similar postings, please contact

any of the site moderators and immediate action will be taken

as it has happened in several instances in the past.

Thank you for your warning and co-operation.

Gianfranco Manca

English-Italian ProZ co-moderator

Saludos,

Andrea

Purpose of translating such terms. Nov 29, 2002

I am glad to see that the translation community is keeping an eye on such issues and refuses to cooperate to spread behaviours that have devasting consequences for the victims.

A quick look on Sex.com Terms of Services tells the following : \"If you come across any site that you believe contains child pornography or other illegal material, please contact us and we will contact the authorities as appropriate.\"

Moreover, the directory list two organisations that fight against pedophilia. On top of that Sex.com is a member of Adult Sites Against Child Pornography

Since Sex.com is a search engine, maybe they need the translation of the terms you mentionned to be able to screen the web site submissions they receive and make sure that they do not list in their directory web sites with that kind of content.

If this is not the case, then such offers should definitively be taken out of the job lists and the appropriate actions be taken.

It appears that this may have been a keyword block list Nov 30, 2002

Very insightful, Stephan. I have seen the file that caused the attention, and I believe it to be a list of terms not to be permitted in searches. There were 37 terms to be translated, one of them being \"illegal terms\", the rest being objectionable.

informarse antes Nov 30, 2002

The Purpose of Search Terms Dec 3, 2002

This message is for all Proz members who have wrongfully accused me and Grant Media, LLC for activity that was aimed at helping and making the international Internet community a better place.

This huge international uproar began when I tried to find a translator to translate a list of illegal words that we use to be absolutely sure that we can screen all search terms that are illegal and inappropriate. The one and only way we can recognize all illegal terms in other languages is to get them translated. Otherwise, people from foreign countries would be able to conduct searches on Sex.com for illegal terms and there would be no way for us to know that this inappropriate activity was occuring. Thus, it is pertinent for us to translate illegal terms so we can ban all improper foreign web sites and visitors from coming to Sex.com.

The message I posted has been misinterpreted and improperly conveyed. It is our goal to block searches for all terms that we deem inappropriate or illegal in every language on this planet.

A little about us: Grant Media owns and operates 2 pay per click search engines (sex.com and galaxysearch.com). I will focus on sex.com as galaxysearch follows the same standards. Sex.com is a search engine, we have no adult content - we are in the traffic business as is Google, Alta Vista, Yahoo, Etc. We are founding members of Adult Sites Against Child Pornography http://www.asacp.org/

We promote net nanny, safesurf, Cyber Sitter, and all filtering programs We have a program called \"Schools.Sex.Com\" where we actively go to schools and obtain their IP addresses and block them on our end. This prevents students from getting to our site by using anonymous proxys and other means of getting around filtering programs. If you perform a search on our search engine for any terms that are found to be unacceptable by our standards (http://www.sex.com/advertising/unacceptable.html ) You will receive links to Adult Sites Against Child Pornography You can also view our advertising standards at http://www.sex.com/advertising/policies.html

Sex.com does not allow automatic submission - this means that every advertiser on our site is checked by our account team to ensure that their site is legal (by our standards) and that the keywords are relevant. We are very strict about our policies, we do not allow celebrity content unless it can be proven that it is licensed. We do want translations for these terms and all other terms that we deem illegal so that we can keep our site free of illegal material.

If you have any questions, concerns or comments regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thanks,

Joanna Posner

Witch-hunting Dec 3, 2002

Me limitaba a informar, a dar mi opinion y no a acusar.
