TALLERES DE INTERPRETACIÓN SIMULTÁNEA
AL INGLÉS

Marina Estinel se desempeña como intérprete de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas desde 1972. Inició su carrera en Nueva York y luego se trasladó a Ginebra donde reside desde mediados de los 80. Marina es coordinadora de cabina inglesa. Sus idiomas de trabajo son el castellano, ruso, francés e inglés. Se retiró en el 2002 pero continúa trabajando para la organización como intérprete free-lance.
Justificación y propósito:
En el mercado argentino, es frecuente que los intérpretes deban traducir no sólo a su lengua madre sino también al idioma extranjero. Este hecho representa un considerable desafío para el profesional y lo expone al riesgo de adquirir vicios expresivos con la consecuente pérdida de precisión idiomática. En estos talleres de práctica intensiva y seguimiento personalizado, los participantes tendrán la oportunidad de adquirir valiosas herramientas y estrategias para superarlos.
Se dictarán dos tipos de talleres (los programas de cada uno se incluyen al final de este envío):
A) TALLERES DE INTERPRETACIÓN:
Destinatarios: profesionales que hayan adquirido la técnica de interpretación al castellano y deseen mejorar su nivel de producción en inglés.
Los talleres se dictarán en tres niveles:
A1) Inicial: se requiere formación previa en interpretación.
A2) Avanzado: se requiere formación y experiencia previa en interpretación.
A3) Master class: intérpretes en actividad.
B) TALLERES PARALELOS:
Destinatarios: estos talleres, dictados en inglés, están diseñados no sólo para los participantes de los talleres de interpretación sino también para traductores y profesores de inglés.
Las especialidades son:

REQUISITOS: En todos los casos se realizará una entrevista previa de evaluación
DURACIÓN, FRECUENCIA Y HORARIOS:
A) Talleres de Interpretación: se realizarán en horarios vespertinos, comenzarán la primera semana de abril de 2003 y tendrán una duración de 3 meses, con una frecuencia de dos clases semanales de 2 hs. c/u.
B) Talleres Paralelos: una clase semanal de dos horas.
LUGAR: Mansilla 3053, Capital
COSTOS:
A) Talleres de Interpretación: $ 200 por mes.
B) Talleres Paralelos: $ 100.
Para todos los talleres se cobrará una matrícula de $ 50. Los participantes que se inscriban a un taller de interpretación y a uno de los talleres paralelos pagarán una sola matrícula..

Lidia Wassertheil y Estela Herrera son traductoras públicas e intérpretes. Se desempeñan como intérpretes de conferencia desde 1987, actividad que han llevado a cabo en forma ininterrumpida.
Han colaborado en numerosos congresos y eventos, tanto en el sector público como en el privado, a nivel nacional e internacional.
PROGRAMS
A1) Beginners
Introduction to simultaneous interpretation techniques.
Teaching points:
· Accuracy and precision of rendition
· Finding the subtext, i.e. the meaning behind the words.
· Absolute concentration on the message (possibly introduce Stanislavsky techniques at this stage)
· Introduction to parliamentary and international conference terminology.
A2) Advanced
Teaching points:
· Aspects listed on beginners’ course, but with an emphasis on developing speed and style
· Parliamentary, international conference, legal and technical terminology.
· Developing smooth delivery (combination of accuracy, speed, style and diction)
A3) Master Class
Intensive coaching in interpreting into English.
Teaching points:
· Emphasis on the role of the interpreter as communicator.
· The interpreter as actor (again, reference to Stanislavsky)
· The interpreter and the media.. Videoconferencing and its pitfalls.
N.B. Materials for the three courses above will include newspaper and magazine articles, conference statements and submissions, with especially advanced documentation ranging from sensitive political meetings to specialized technical debates to be covered in Level 2 sessions and the Master Class.
B) PARALLEL COURSES.
B1) Elocution and rhetoric (Public speaking )
· Study of outstanding examples of English language oratory covering a wide range of subjects and issues.
· Intensive practice and class exercises based on the selection of material as indicated above.
· Submissions to be presented and discussed by both rhetoric and Master Class students.
B2) International agenda: a series of lectures on world issues.
Multilateral diplomacy: past and present.
The League of Nations.
The United Nations and its role in the post-war period, the Cold War and today.
Peacekeeping: the role of the United Nations Security Council.
Disarmament and collective security.
Regional security (the Treaty of Tlatelolco. Latin America as a nuclear-free zone).
International Treaty Law (the Vienna Convention and the Succession of States).
International Humanitarian Law (the Geneva Conventions, the Red Cross and United Nations Treaty Bodies).
International Trade Law and the World Trade Organization.
International Environmental Law and the United Nations Convention on Climate Change.
United Nations Specialized Agencies (WHO, ILO, etc.)
Specialized Agencies in the Americas.
Role of the Organization of American States and the maintenance of regional peace and security.
Note: each lecture will be followed by a brief question and answer session.
Lecture summaries will be provided and a wide range of support material used.
All lectures will be offered exclusively in English, with appropriate Spanish explanations and equivalents of technical terms, abbreviations and names of organizations and treaties.
