Hi, Ailish. I feel really curious about your comment and wish you could ellaborate on the grounds for such a statement. Hope you haven\'t made same mistake Cortázar did when he talked of \"lectores macho\" and \"lectores hembra\" (allegedly, the \"lectores macho\" were the active readers his work was aimed at; it turned out that more women than men were \"lectores macho\" or active readers). I don\'t think Virginia Woolf needs to be translated by a female translator the same way I don\'t think James Joyce or Hemingway need to be translated by a male translator.
Moreover,what about the Pulitzer prize, Michael Cunningham who wrote about Virginia Woolf in The Hours? I think this man grasped pretty well the \"female mind\", if it exists...

This is just an opinion. I don\'t really know much about psychology or gender differences. But with translations, I feel it takes more than a matter of being a man or a woman.
Oriana Fallaci\'s \"The Price and the Rage\" was translated by a man that was chosen by this author. José Mauro Vasconcelos was translated by a woman. I am just picking up examples from books that are on top of my desk, but there must be many many similar cases.

Lo que es sorprendente es la respuesta de los hombres y los comentarios que escribieron. No creo que Ailish esté planteando que los libros deban ser traducidos por traductores del mismo sexo que el autor.
Creo que lo que aquí queda en evidencia es que \"A Room of One\'s Own\" ha sido muy poco leído.

Tu comentario también es sorprendente, y eso que no eres hombre. Ailish citó esto: \"José Luis López Muñoz, conocido traductor de autores como Faulkner o Virginia Woolf....\". O mucho me equivoco, o este señor ha traducido a Woolf más de una vez (\"conocido\"). La lectura del libro antes de traducirlo, bueno, se le supone... Es posible que el traductor haya sido el único hombre que lo haya leído, pero (claro, aparte de él como traductor) nadie - hombre o mujer - tiene obligación de leerlo... que yo sepa.
Por lo que plantea o no Ailish, bueno, aunque también pueda parecer sorprendente, está en su derecho, pero quizás desee explicarse un poquito más para que nos entendamos todos dónde realmente está el problema que se plantea, si lo hay. He intentado profundizar en ello pero - quizás por ser hombre, no sé - no he llegado a ninguna conclusión definitiva al respecto.
Espero no haber resultado demasiado sorprendente.
