A very special trait that makes Proz.com unique is the wonderful tradition of organizing powwows.

Powwows are informal get-togethers of groups of ProZ.com users and the public in general living in close proximity. They provide an opportunity for networking and informal socializing among language professionals--a chance to meet the people behind the profiles.

It would be great if students joined this tradition! Powwows are a fantastic experience and anyone who has attended one can tell you so: here you can see comments about past Powwows http://www.proz.com/?sp=event/powwow_board&show_mode=past

So, are you in?
Be the first one to propose a Student Powwow in your area! http://www.proz.com/?sp=event/powwow_board&show_mode=propose

You can see the upcoming Powwows in your country here: http://www.proz.com/?sp=event/powwow_board&show_mode=upcoming

Interested? You'll find some useful info in this article: http://www.proz.com/translation-articles/articles/102/1/Organizing-a-ProZ.com-powwow-in-your-city

But, basically, If you feel like gathering round with some friends and having some fun, just propose a date and a place here and we'll help you out with the rest.

See you around,

Soledad.

Let's celebrate Translator's Day together with powwows around the world! Jul 31, 2007

Dear ProZians,

You are invited to come celebrate Translator's Day together with the ProZ.com community at powwows around the world!

A great event is going to take place around the world on the weekend of Translator's Day--September 28, 29 and 30. In cities everywhere, translators will together celebrate their profession at a series of ProZ.com powwows. Collectively, we hope that this will be the largest worldwide gathering of translators and translation students ever!

Messages will be exchanged from powwow to powwow, making it a unique experience and offering a chance to say Hi! to other colleagues around the world. More details will be provided as the date gets closer, but the first Translators Day powwows have been posted already:

http://www.proz.com/powwows

Never attended a powwow before?

Don't miss this unique opportunity to meet colleagues and reach out across the world with one message. ProZ.com powwows are free, informal events -- all you do is show up! Check the powwow board and sign up for the powwow nearest you.

Don't see any powwows in your area? Suggest one!

If there are no powwows scheduled near you, you can suggest one. If you are a ProZ.com member, or have had your identity verified, starting a powwow in your town can be as easy as choosing a time and place (often a restaurant), and then taking attendance when the event is held. You don't have to promote the event or even speak at it; promotion is handled by ProZ.com, and the events are unscripted. Give it a try – you might be surprised to find out how many ProZians live close by!

Propose your powwow here .

Joining this global celebration will undoubtedly represent a unique, one-time experience. Be part of realizing this extraordinary endeavor!

For more information on taking part, please contact [romina at proz.com]

Following the suggestion Soledad made me a few weeks ago, why not gather on September 30th in Lyon for a wee powwow on the occasion of Translator's Day ?
Could be a nice opportunity to get to know each other and enjoy the lifestyle of the French gastronomy capital !

Date and Place of our powwow Oct 10, 2007

Dear all!

As I already got various requests for the powwow in Munich, I will set a date and place now where we can gather.
This will not have any official character, we will just sit in a bar, chat and connect - okey dokey?

It will take place on 27th of October in the bar "edmoses"

Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Best wishes

yours Katharina

It's gonna be a great powwow! Oct 10, 2007

Hi Katharina! Nice to see you around!

I see that there many ProzianZ have signed up for your powwow. That's great! http://www.proz.com/powwow/1456.
You should report the date and place info at your powwow page also.

It is very nice to see students organizing powwows already. Some of you attended the the international translator's day powwows last 30th September, and even proposed powwows like Anne and Pablo. Maybe you would like to share your experience with the rest of the StudentZ.
Also, I was thinking...what about organizing powwows with students from your universities in the future?

CheerZ!

Sole.

Halloween powwows Oct 11, 2007

Hi everybody!

I have just proposed a Halloween powwow in La Plata for StudentZ. http://www.proz.com/powwow/1709

Needless to say, all students in the area are invited, and though I really would love that some of you living far away could also make it to the powwow, I know it's not possible. But... we could take advantage of the wonderful opportunities Internet offers and connect between student powwows taking place that day!
You can propose your powwow at http://www.proz.com/?sp=event/powwow_board&show_mode=propose

Would you like to join in?

CheerZ!

S.

French powwow in Lyon Oct 12, 2007

Hey there !

Our powwow on International Translators Day here in Lyon was great ! Well, I was actually the only student among pros, but still, it was very interesting and nice ! Here are some pictures : http://www.proz.com/powwow_report/1610

We are organising the next one on November 17th (http://www.proz.com/powwow/1679), but it's possible we're going to organise a special Students/Pros powwow, with students from my college, in order for us beginners to meet professional translators. Date must be set, but I'll keep you informed !

Good luck Katharina with your powwow - it's gonna be great ! Don't forget to take pictures !
Sole, a Halloween powwow is a great idea ! I wish I could join, but well, Argentina is just a bit too far away for me

CheerZ !
Anne

Fan-tas-tic powwow! Oct 12, 2007

A professional/students powwow sounds like a fantastic idea!!!

I saw that many professionals have signed up at Katharina's powwow, so there will be a nice experience exchange there too.

It would be terrific that other students and translators grew keen on this idea, and we had in many parts of the world these rich meetings in which students could get in contact with professional translators! I am sure that if other students proposed powwows, many of the translators in our large community would be interested in attending.

I think it would be awsome...

Does anyone feel like going for it?
Just say hey!

Kisses to all,

S.
