Hi everyone,
I'm currently trying to teach myself Tatar, for reasons of academic interest rather than anything else, but am becoming frustrated by the sheer lack of materials - I'm using this site: http://www.tatar.com.ru/sam/index.php but it's not really sufficient and I'd rather not learn my third/fourth language through the medium of my second. Is it similar enough to any other Turkic language for the materials to be interchangeable?

Which Tatar language?

Joanne, you may want to know there are at least two major kinds of Tatars - Kazan and Crimean. And I think there are Bashkir and Ufa tatars but they are close with Kazan ones. Kazan and Crimean tatars are two different etnicities, languges and cultures. I am half Crimean tatar (my mother comes from around Djankoi). Sadly I do not quite speak the language but love when I hear it, love their songs, foods etc.
