Segmentation for OmegaT Jan 20, 2008

OmegaT comes with a very powerful sentence segmentation system based on regular expressions that was available when your article was published.

Spellcheck Apr 21, 2008

OmegaT does have spellcheck and can use spellcheck modules for Hunspell (the engine used by OpenOffice.org).

"OmegaT supports all Win 98/ME/NT4/2K/XP languages, and UTF 8 Unicode. " Apr 21, 2008

What does “Win 98/ME/NT4/2K/XP languages” mean actually? AFAIK, the languages of Windows are C/C++/C# primarily, but they're not for translation. The phrase is nonsense.

"StarOffice, which is free and open-source, can be used as an alternative to OpenOffice. " Apr 21, 2008

Incorrect. OpenOffice.org is free and open-source. StarOffice is proprietary software.

"OmegaT’s coverage of file formats really is impoverished – limited to plain text and HTML" Apr 21, 2008

a) OmegaT reads/writes OpenDocument files without OOo or any other external program;
b) OmegaT reads/writes OOXML files (MS Office 2007 files) without MS Office, OOo or any other external program.

Overall impression/conclusion Apr 21, 2008

As for OmegaT, the author uses obsolete or incorrect data and obviously hasn't had any experience with the program. Thus, this article is not worth reading if you want to have a fair comparison of OmegaT (FOSS) with other (commercial) tools.
