Hi all, please see below details of an AUSIT WA PD session on taxation matters, with a speaker from the ATO. Instructions on registration and payment are provided. Any queries contact me personally on transl8@tpg.com.au

TALKING WITH THE TAX MAN

SUPERANNUATION
EMPLOYEE or CONTRACTOR?
and other general tax issues relevant to interpreters and translators

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR INTERPRETERS AND TRANSLATORS

When: 1:15 p.m. 6 August 2011

Where: Tresillian Community Centre, Cnr. Edward and Tyrell, Nedlands

How much: $35.00 members
$50.00 non members

How many PD points: 10 (Section 5.1 Complementary Skills Development – Specialist non-T&I session 2 to 4 hours)

Mr. Chris Turnbull from the Australian Tax Office will give a 40-minute general presentation on tax issues. He will be able to refer attendees to more detailed information if needed. He cannot give specific case-by-case advice.

Attendees are invited to ask questions. For example:

On Call has been ordered to treat all their interpreters as employees in regard to superannuation. From the ATO’s point of view, should all interpreting agencies do the same?

As a translator who sometimes delivers documents to clients, can I claim motor vehicle expenses as a deduction?

If you have any questions you would like to ask, you will get a better quality answer by sending them in advance to the Secretary, AUSIT WA (Jean Deklerk j.t.s@digisurf.net.au), to be passed on to Chris Turnbull.

PAYMENT

Please pay by direct bank transfer to the AUSIT WA account, as below. This is the optimal and most streamlined payment method.

Bank: Westpac
BSB: 036-027
Branch: Karrinyup
Account name: AUSIT WA
Account No.: 222003
Reference: (Please use your surname as the reference: e.g. “Smith”)

Alternatively you may choose to go to any Westpac Bank branch and make a deposit to the above account. Please do not pay through the AUSIT National office as it incurs additional administration handling fees. Likewise, Credit Card payments incur a 2.5% surcharge.*

REGISTRATION

After payment, you must register by email with the same name as your payment reference, to ensure that your payment is recognised. Please send your email to:
AUSIT WA Treasurer: Michèle Dreyfus mdrtranslations@arach.net.au

* If your last and only option is to pay by cheque, please make the cheque out to “AUSIT WA”, write your name on the back if the cheque account name on the cheque is different to the name you will register under, and post it to: AUSIT WA Treasurer, PO Box 314, NORTH FREMANTLE, WA 6159.
