Hi,
I was asked to create a sticker in French that could be applied to the English packaging of a product to make it understandable to French speakers. The client is asking to meet government requirements for the translation. I am unfamiliar with the legislation and did not know there were specific requirements on translations. Can anyone advise? Thank you!

Search for "bilingual labelling requirements" in advanced Google search, with gc.ca as domain name. It probably depends on the product.

Using Google with words like : normes étiquetage langue canada will provide lots of info, for example...

ÉTIQUETAGE DE PRODUITS OFFERTS AU QUÉBEC

Obligatoirement en français, une ou plusieurs autres langues permises pourvu que le français figure de façon aussi évidente.

Exceptions
==========

Appellations d'origine, produits typiques, patronymes, noms de personnages, autres noms distinctifs à caractère culturel : autre langue permise sans obligation d'utiliser le français;

inscription relative à un produit culturel ou éducatif : autre langue permise sans obligation d'utiliser le français.

Note :
Pour l'étiquetage des aliments, voir aussi la réglementation du ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation du Québec et la réglementation fédérale.
Normes d'étiquetage des produits alimentaires...

Good luck

Your best bet is to have the client, not the crowd here, provide you with those requirements. After all, the client is the one you must satisfy, not the crowd here.
