Hola:
Una agencia europea me está pidiendo los números SWIFT e IBAN para hacerme una transferencia bancaria. En el banco me proporcionaron el SWIFT, pero dicen que el IBAN no saben qué es. ¿Alguien me podría explicar que es el IBAN y si realmente existe y se usa en México?

Proporcionamos Swift para recibir. También el routing ya que cobramos por Casa de cambio.
Mi banco en España usa Iban para recibir, es mi cuenta como no residente.

Creo que el equivalente en México es el número CLABE, y es lo que tienes que dar a tu cliente. Los bancos europeos, para transferencias en euros, usan el IBAN, que es el número del banco + el número de cuenta.
Payments to Mexico (CLABE No.)
This is a required field for payment to Mexico. The 18-digit CLABE number is a banking standard for Mexico. The order is as follows: first 3 digits are bank code, followed by another 3 digits for branch office, then 11 digits for account number, and the last digit for verification code.
IBAN No.
If vendor is being paid in Euros, provide the IBAN of the bank, which the vendor is using. This has a maximum of 34 alphanumeric characters, which uniquely identifies the vendor's account held at a bank anywhere in the world.
Countries currently using IBAN numbers: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom.

* No tengo cuenta bancaria o de ahorros en ningún país de la Comunidad Europea (CE)
* Tengo entendido que el informar el código IBAN sólo es obligatorio para los beneficiarios de pagos dentro de la CE. No resido dentro de la CE y por lo tanto no sería el beneficiario de un pago dentro de la misma.
* La sucursal en Colombia del banco XXXX (multinacional, en mi caso) donde tengo mi cuenta no está dentro de la CE, no tiene ni utiliza IBAN y en respuesta a mis consultas sólo pueden suministrarme el código SWIFT y el número ABA
Una vez analizan los motivos mencionados, proceden a pagarme sin problemas

Lo más sencillo es proporcionar el código SWIFT que te ha proporcionado el banco y el número de cuenta (NO el número CLABE, porque con éste se hacen bolas...)
El número de cuenta generalmente tiene este formato:
XXXX XXXX XX XXXXXXXXXX (cada X equivale a un dígito).
En México sí existe el IBAN, se llama ABA, pero el problema para usarlo es que en Europa el IBAN es un solo número en el que ya va incluido tu número de cuenta, mientras que aquí en México el ABA (equivalente al IBAN) es sólo un número para identificar la sucursal, y además del ABA tienes que dar tu número de cuenta, cuestión que confunde mucho a los europeos (porque como mencioné, para ellos basta con dar su IBAN porque ya incluye el número de cuenta).
La información de tu transferencia quedaría así:
SWIFT: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
NÚMERO DE CUENTA: XXXX XXXX XX XXXXXXXXXX
Y con eso debe bastar (yo no he tenido problemas hasta el momento haciéndolo así)
