Hello everyone,
From a translator's point of view, what is your preferred way of working when it comes to translating a website with or without a CMS, but in both cases using a translation memory ? What do you need from the client and what tools do you use. What works best for you ?
Thanks for your input.
Valerie

ask for the language folder Sep 24, 2008

Hi,

There are hundreds or more CMS's around, written in different codes (php, asp...) so it's difficult to know all the details beforehand. A lot of them are written specifically for one company, others use template style CMS's like Joomla, Drupal or WordPress. You could ask for the name of the CMS and Google some basic information, p.e. code, folder structure, etc. Most CMS's will have a specific language folder. You could ask for a zipped copy of all of those files and translate them in TagEditor.

It seems the best solution provided you have got some expertise. I have had some really nice experiences with this programme, as it allows you to protect html and other tags and just translate what you need.
