Hi again,
I am new to CAT tools and posted a similar question about the possibility of file sharing between Wordfast Anywhere and Trados or MemoQ. For anyone who knows the ins and outs of OmegaT, could you help me identify whether or not there are files which are accepted by OmegaT and Trados or MemoQ (and which types specifically)? Thank you.

What exactly do you want to do?
OmegaT can edit a number of file types, and so can Trados (and MemoQ), but that does not mean they are "compatible". For example, OmegaT can translate DOCX files, but so can Trados.
Both OmegaT and Trados can export TMs to TMX format, and both can read each other's TMX files (though not always with 100% reliability).
OmegaT can edit (but not create) Trados' TTX format under very specific, ideal circumstances.

Here is what I would like to do (or know whether or not it's possible):
I know another translator who works in Trados and MemoQ. My software includes OmegaT and Wordfast Anywhere so I would like to take his translations and edit them using my software if possible. I would then need to send the corrected version back to him so that he could use it as he had been using his original tools (Trados or MemoQ).
Ultimately if this isn't possible it would probably be a matter of working between word documents but it wouldn't be as convenient.

I can't speak for MemoQ (for I don't know if MemoQ has a shareable intermediary format), but as far as Trados is concerned, you may be able to do it.
If your colleague sends you a TTX file and you are certain that the entire file is translated (i.e. no non-translated parts in it), then you can use OmegaT to edit it. There are two ways to do it, and I suggest you ask that question in the OmegaT forum here or in Yahoogroups. Buyer beware, though.
Sadly, OmegaT can't even edit TMX files. If you want to use free software to edit TMX files, you can try Virtaal. After you've edited the TMX file, your colleague has to re-translate his file (using a semi-automatic process) using your updated TMX file.

Thank you, Samuel! I'm happy to know more details about how this could work. I didn't know about Virtaal so thanks also for the suggestion.

Hi Samuel, what do you mean by this? Certainly you can import TMX into OmegaT, along with the source text, and edit the translation, creating a new TM. But that's obvious, so probably you mean something different.

What I mean is this: You can't put the TMX file in the /source/ folder and expect OmegaT to load it so that you can edit it.
