There're around 100 files which contain similar words. What FREE software can do this? I also have unregistered version of Wordfast.

What format? Dec 10, 2005

The important question is: what is the format of files? If the files are binary (such as Word and other editors), the replacement might be hard, if not impossible. On the other hand, if it is text, there are several options.

My personal favorite is BK ReplaceEm:
http://www.orbit.org/replace/

Another one I know is InfoRapid Search & Replace:
http://www.inforapid.de/html/searchreplace.htm

but I found it a little bit awkward to use.

If it is a one-time job, you might try a shareware software (provided it is time-limited, with all the features).
http://www.tucows.com/downloads/Windows/DevelopmentWebAuthoring/Search-and-replace/

That's what I did once with TextPipe, which is quite powerful, although somewhat complicated to use. The same company also provides WordPipe, which allows replacing inside Word files.

There are several free multi-file search and replace tools, but I need to know what the file formats are.

MS Word?
Text?
HTML/XML?

Wordfast PlusTools Dec 10, 2005

Just get the Wordfast PlusTools from Yves Champollion's site. They're a collection of free macros for Word that include a pretty sophisticated multi-file Find&Replace feature.

I guess that's the end of it... Dec 15, 2005

but I would still think of those precious words - like "hey, I want to keep you gals and boys around"! Like: "!getting richer, one custmer/file at a time".

I do have my own ways of achieving this (MultiTerm etc). But, anyhow, I thought it would make a good hint;)
