Dealing with XML files

Hello all,

I do not have a CAT tool and have 4000 words to translate in 2 XML files.

Could anyone please suggest the best ways to handle these without the aid of a CAT tool?

You could try an editor such as XML Marker (free online at http://symbolclick.com/) or EditPad Pro.

Simple text editors like the ones in MS Windows may do the trick as well, providing you are skilled at differentiating between tags and text to be translated. You could also cut and paste the text into Word so that you can proofread your text and use the spellchecker before sa... See more

You might also try free/trial versions of CAT tools like WordFast or SDLX lite. They should provide you with an easy-to-use environment for creating clean and accurate .xml translations. The TM created will certainly be useful in future projects as well.

Jedit will most likely help you differentiate tags from translatable text by automatically assigning different colors to them.

It is free. I am sure there are other similar (and free) tools, if you don't like Jedit.

Okapi allows you to extract text from a XML file, translate it, and then reimport it, so you don't have to deal with tags.

Please try out the export/import feature *before* starting out with the work, because depending on the filters you use you may obtain different outputs.
